v Worthing

Recommended Posts

I agree with most of what's already been said on here in that this was an unexpectedly emphatic victory against the league leaders (remember that we were bottom of the form guide going into the game).

Class performances from Ochieng and Bayliss made Worthing look quite toothless up front and in spite of their good pressing system and sustained periods of possession they rarely seriously troubled us. Ogbonna looked back to his best yesterday with him, Gilbert and Goddard always looking dangerous, we blew them away and Worthing had no answer.

3-0 up at half-time for the 2nd half we were content to soak up pressure and hit them on the counter, a dangerous tactic given the side we know Worthing are, but one that yesterday worked to perfection.

Another great goal from Scotty, a clean sheet and a win that never looked in doubt from the moment the first goal went in. I can't remember the last time we managed a performance like that for the full 90 minutes! Another 2 goals from Spasov, however whoever gave him MOTM is crackers, there were several good candidates but for me it had to go to Ochieng who had Worthing in his pocket all game.

I hate to end on a (slightly) negative note but this deserves mentioning and shouldn't go unnoticed; there were 2 daft booking towards the end: Ochieng for needless time-wasting and Timberlake for a late challenge, which was also needless given that we were 4-0 up and he had little chance of getting the ball in any event.

With Enfield and St Albans now picking up points, we're still 11 points off Welling in 21st so without this and last week's win against Maidstone we'd now be in serious trouble! Doesn't this make Tuesday's performance and result sickening? I suppose the scene is now set for us to lose at Welling next week and have us looking over our shoulders once more? That would be typical of us after a result like this!

Can anyone say what yesterday's attendence was? Thank You!

783. It felt like more, but this is alarmingly poor bearing in mind that there was a good travelling support.

I'll bet you as much money as you like we don't lose to Welling next week Nathan🙈🙈(we are away a Truro next week, then home to Chippenham THEN away at Welling).

On the Henry booking, that was more terrible refereeing. The rules clearly state a player must be 10 yards from the free kick. Faal was about 4 yards (all be it to the side) and Henry was pointing that out. The fact the referee chose not to enforce the laws of the game is, once again, indicative of how rubbish they have been this season.

Yes losing at St. Albans is frustrating and sort of doesn’t make sense seeing as we beat both Maidstone and Worthing either side of that match but 100% all of us would have taken 6 from 9 points! Most would have predicted between 3-5. Hoping we can start a little unbeaten run now seeing as after Truro we have on paper a kinder (not necessarily easier!) set of fixtures. We’re just 3 points off 9th so still lots to aim for.

It was Oggys best game so far this season but TBH his form so far has been a bit disappointing compared to what we saw last season.

Lets hope it's not just a one off and he maintains this type of form for the remainder of the season.

I'm not surprised on the slightly disappointing attendance given our league position and the cold weather which tends to keep some of the fair weather supporters away.

Not sure on your point Nathan 'if we didn't beat Maidstone and Worthing we'd be in serious trouble'

If we'd lost our last 15 games we'd be at the bottom of the table but we didn't.

That would be a risky bet SF given our appalling away record.

No place is easy to go to but our record at Welling isn't good at the best of times.

It doesn't get much better than that. A fantastic performance from the entire team, making a very good Worthing side look less than ordinary.

MoM for me was David Ogbonna but apart from Horlock (who didn't really have anything bar 1 decent save in the 2nd half) you could make a case for any of the starters today. Gilbert looked much more like the Gilbert from before his suspension as well which is another plus point.

Tactically we were excellent and had clearly learnt the book on how Worthing wanted to play and stopped them doing so. All in all a fantastic performance, capped off with 4 brilliant goals and another step towards 50 points completed. What more could you want on a Saturday.

Agree with David all day long.

Unfortunately I had nine of the lads from Slough Heating FC with me and they have asked if we can sign him, I'm putting together an offer of unlimited Polish Vodka as we speak speak to temp him up the road to The Polish Club. 😂

Thankyou SloughFlyer for pointing out my deliberate mistake!

Although I could have sworn that the stadium announcer spoke of booking a coach seat to Welling next week, so I'm blaming him 😀

If we'd lost our last 15 games we'd be at the bottom of the table but we didn't.

I mean that had we lost last week and on Saturday, we'd now be 19th on 36 points (which is only 5 points off the drop zone). Had we drawn them both we'd be 18th on 38 points, only 7 points clear and we'd still be nervously looking over our shoulders.

Either way, we'd also have been winless in 14 league matches and had we lost them both we'd have lost our last 6, which would have meant picking up only 5 points from 42 in that time (which is total freefall and clearly relegation form).

Of course that's all academic now that we've won them both and kept our heads above the water (for now at least) 😀

Ifs buts and maybes, it didn't happen because we are a different animal at home.

Don't ask me why but we are.

Surely it can't just be down to playing on 3G?

I’d say our pitch is the main factor we’re much better at home (home crowd/atmosphere a close second). But as Scott said we desperately need to find a way to gain more points on the road.
