v Worthing

Recommended Posts

Second in the table with 3 games in hand and top of the form guide against a side that are bottom of the form guide.

On paper it's difficult to see anything other than a Worthing win.

At home we're a different side, difficult to beat and normally we give all the top sides a run for their money.

So no doubt to get any sort of result we're going to have to be on our A game.

I'll go for a 1-1 draw.

The last time we won at home to them was 1986….. Scott Davies & most of our fans probably weren’t even alive then!!!

That was a crazy game Worthing seemed in control and were leading 0-1  till we scored in the 82nd minute then the 84th and 89th to take it 3-1.

It doesn't get much better than that. A fantastic performance from the entire team, making a very good Worthing side look less than ordinary.

MoM for me was David Ogbonna but apart from Horlock (who didn't really have anything bar 1 decent save in the 2nd half) you could make a case for any of the starters today. Gilbert looked much more like the Gilbert from before his suspension as well which is another plus point.

Tactically we were excellent and had clearly learnt the book on how Worthing wanted to play and stopped them doing so. All in all a fantastic performance, capped off with 4 brilliant goals and another step towards 50 points completed. What more could you want on a Saturday.

well i did not see that result coming well done the ladsjust one mute point why oh why do we go deep in the second half and just invite our opponants to come on as we did early on in the second half as soon as we went back on the offensive we were the far better team just something to ponder

At half time, with the Worthing subs they changed system HT. If we had carried on the way we did in the first half, they would have been able to play around the high pressure so dropping into a low block and putting bodies in the way helped to keep the wolf from the door.

What a fantastic & complete performance for the full 90 minutes.

I’ve got to admit I thought Worthing were a very good footballing side and felt that if they had managed to get back to 3-1 by half-time we could have struggled to win. The reaction from Scott & our bench when we scored our fourth seemed to imply that they didn’t think the win was secure until that went in.

A great performance from us though, probably one of our top three performances in the last ten years, I hope it’s a turning point & we see a great final quarter of the season.

Great result we move up to 14th leapfrogging the 2 teams who were above us although they have 1 and 2 games in hand Enfield out of the bottom 4 for first time in months as the tailenders really begin to fight!

Worthing match report now on their main site I can't remember reading an opposition report so praising the rivals naming all the great performers and conceding they were outplayed in all areas of the game worth a read apparantly that was their 1st defeat in 81days and 12 games.

Awesome performance. Obviously it was a great team effort but I thought Gilbert and Ogbonna were outstanding and Bayliss and Pruti were rocks in defence. We blew them away first half and could have had several more.

I thought the game management second half was superb.  There was nothing to be gained by going gung ho and we defended resolute limiting them to very little.

What a fantastic result against another team in the mix for the promotion fight, 1st half hands down we were brilliant,  chasing the 1st and 2nd balls we were all over Worthing,  second half it seemed we backed off the pressure and allowed Worthing back in , granted we got the 4th goal, but based on the 1st half performance did we need to shut up shop ? Henry Ochieng get this man a long term contract,  he's the machine in midfield

Unfortunately for us Henry Ochieng has made no bones about the fact he wants to go higher and return to full time football.

It would be a major coup if he decided to stay but just can't see it.

Tactically we got it spot on with our best 90+ minute home performance of the season.

Along with Worthing making changes and shape at half time it was always going to be difficult to maintain our high press/work rate which meant they had a lot more possession and we had a lot more defending to do which we did superbly.

With so many good performances it's almost impossible to name a motm.

Without doubt we've become a Jekyll and Hyde team with our home form good enough to be in a play-off position but our away form is bottom 4.

Answers on a postcard please.
