Just got the result here in Australia. Great result needed because St. Albans and Aveley won as well.

Bates best player on the pitch.   Deserved MoM.

Caused issues for Welling all night and 2 assists...think he set up Chuks too.

Some fans on here writing him off before he d kicked a ball.🤔

 

Much better few results than the experts predicted and not sure Welling would have scored before midnight.

We managed that pretty well, a nicely taken goal from Chukwu after he was slipped in by Bates, which couldn't have come at a better time, as we were inviting pressure and couldn't get out of our half. After that, Welling largely ran out of ideas, but huge credit has to go to us for the defensive shift we put in. Yes we let them have a lot of the ball, but we looked organised and hard to break down and they didn't really have a clear cut chance in the second half other than a couple of scrambles from set pieces.

Bates was given MoM, and looks a very tidy player, but I'd also call out all 3 centre backs and Stallard for their defensive work. That said, every player including the subs put in an enormous effort to get us over the line - well done Town 👏

Churlish I know...but a lovely smug feeling driving back to Bexley (the London Borough of which contains Welling) having just seen the Wings off 2-0! 🤭🤭🤭
