Aveley 0-1 Enfield Town

Ugly win...but a win all the same...made up for main bar being shut for a function (on a matchday, again!) and not a pint of bitter in sight!!!

Roll on Tuesday 🤞🏻

It wasn't pretty but a good job done.

Weathered relentless pressure in the first half, with only a couple of breaks forward for us. Great saves by Rhys in goal and some good luck got us to half time. They created a lot through our midfield and we would have struggled against a team with better finishers.

Second half we were able to take the game to them for periods. Not sure of the reason for the Oyenuga swap with Bates but it gave us more control over midfield. Bates has similar composure to Tuck on the ball but with a bit more attacking flair. He took the free kick for "arch-poacher" Youngsy to nod in.

Neither striker showed like scoring but Chukwu put in a fantastic shift. Kisamu replaced him near the end and fluffed his lines when one on one with the keeper when Smith set him up with a strong run and pass.

I thought Chuks might have been in trouble reacting to some close attention from an Aveley player and a couple of people hit the deck, but the ref calmed things down with a couple of yellows. But then missed a couple of nasty late tackles as the defence battled under more pressure.

It wasn't pretty, it was a battle but we're in a battle and it was 3 points well deserved.

It's great to see good players added to improve the squad, and have players on the bench that can make a difference. I'd say, its game on!

Was at the game. great win.

Forster with a couple of excellent saves in the first half and Bates made us far more competitive in midfield after coming on at half time for the shocking Oyenuga. Why can’t Micky play RB from the start?

Thompson was the stand out today. Great leader, calm and won everything at the back. Hawkins and Stallard solid as well.

Bizarre to shut the car park and club house on a match day. Clearly football isn’t a priority for them.

You must be off your rocker!! Did you actually watch?

The front two gave Aveley a torrid time all afternoon!!

Hutchinson had 4 efforts on goal three of them forcing good saves on goal and all three coming from good work from Chukwu.

We finally have a front two partnership and they were both a constant threat.

Aveley deserved a point at least but we were resilient and dogged and it’s a great 3 points.

Yeah my mistake, making the keeper pull off 2 decent saves doesn’t look like scoring at all to me.

Anyway the point was they both gave their back line a real tough afternoon. They ran behind they stretched the game they combined together and they physically didn’t give anyone a moments peace especially first half.

Second half Hutchinson dropped deeper and played as an extra midfielder out of possession picking up their 6 who was getting way too much time on the ball before that .

We had two efforts where we were beyond their last defender with just the keeper between ball and goal and I can’t remember that happening all season!

Just to defend Aveley re the function they had on in their clubhouse - as explained on Facebook, this was a function in aid of a cancer charity which needed a venue late in the day due to issues elsewhere. Aveley had asked us to play the game on Friday but due to player availability we declined.

About time we picked up 3 points we might not've deserved! Although we need to get back within touching distance of safety, I'm just pleased that we're competitive. A third of the season left and whatever happens on Tuesday it looks as if we'll have something to play for.

Sorry, if you fail to get on the end of about thirty acceptable crosses and hit a series of long range efforts into Belhus Park, then that doesn't make Aveley unlucky, but incompetent!

Great three points there.  Bring on Welling tomorrow evening.  Have to say that Aveley's bar prices were a disgrace.  £10 for a half pint can of Heineken 0 and a bottle of Sol.  What a disgrace!
