Dorking v Slough

Recommended Posts

Who was actually thinking we’d win today? Not sure why Scott would openly say it was a big free hit today as that doesn’t inspire confidence. Our 16 point gap is now 13 with 4th bottom Enfield having a game in hand plus having to visit us.

Hopefully you're right and the budget hasn't been spent on Pruti.

Desperately need some quality in the middle now Leon's gone.

I’m not so sure we’re actively looking to replace Leon currently. A good chunk of budget has just been allocated for the signings of Goddard, Hollis, Miccio and Pruti. I doubt there’s much if anything left in the pot. But with Maidstone, Worthing and Truro to play this month plus relegation placed St. Albans it’s a very tough run to come.

Hopefully you're not correct because in my view a midfielder to replace Leon was much more important that another unnecessary CB.

Either way my prediction of 3 points this month is looking a decent bet.

And who is that win against and why?

Doesn't have to be a win maybe 3 draws or we can snatch a win away at Snorbans or at home to Chipps.

St Albans are 9 points from safety so will be absolutely fighting for their lives in that match and being local they could bring a few hundred fans. Chippenham is the only match in February that have nothing to really play for.

Cant see where the next points are coming from after that. We were lucky to get away with 3-1,

could easily have been 6 or 7 if it had not been for our MOM Charlie Horlock. Even with

a defensive 5 at the back we look poor, not sure Hollis would have made that much

difference to be honest.

I thought for the first 40 minutes against Weston and all game today we actually performed fairly well without creating too much attacking threat. Given the defensive issues we have currently, I suspect Scott has been in 2 minds and not really known to stick or twist. Whilst Dorking missed plenty of chances today and Horlock made some excellent saves, I thought against the best team (IMO) in the league and with a new/under strength defence we looked and performed fairly well.

Pick of the bunch was Pruti and Miccio who played very well and hopefully will continue to contribute along with Prosper and Jackman who also did well. Slavi worked his socks off and deserved his goal. Henry was Henry as you would expect.

The result, even with a full strength team today was going to be tough as Dorking really are in a different league to Slough, but i think there are buds of good performances in there and signs of a turn around in results on the horizon.

We have come away from games this season with very negative thoughts overall, but today wasn't that.

I'm not convinced playing a back 5 against teams like Dorking, who have top strikers, is the best way to set up.

To my mind this attracts more pressure on the defence and when you give top strikers like Prior and Rutherford space anywhere around your area there's normally only one outcome.

IMO the best way is to stifle the midfield with maybe a 3-5-2 or 4-5-1 in an attempt as much as you can to cut off supply to the strikers.

When we play Maidstone at home next week I'm pretty sure we'll be on the front foot and getting in their faces to try to stop them creating chances.

SF, on your 'lack of creating too much attacking threat' point, how much do you think it was down to missing someone like Leon in our midfield?
