Scott's interview - The Squad

I think we are safe for this season as there is a 10-point gap between 20th and 21st and there are 6 teams between us and the relegation zone. we will pick up enough points to be safe.

The question going forward is planning for next season.

There are a number of players whose contracts end at the end of this season (including Scott).

There needs to be some big decisions made about who stays and who goes, and what next season’s team looks like.

And the biggest elephant in the room is what next seasons budget will be.

Will it be the same or less than this season - which will give any manager a headache.

Or will it be bigger and how will that be funded, and will it even then be big enough to be competitive.

And the very long term question is what level is Slough’s true level to be competitive and financially viable?

Took me a while to scroll back through the news on the website to fact check myself, but Scott is contracted to the end of next season (June 2026).

February is a very tough sequence of matches & some people may start panicking, but in March in six matches we play 5 of the bottom 8…. and we should pick up a decent number of points then.

Some of those lower place clubs could be in dog fight to avoid relegation whilst some of the clubs at the top end could be basking in the knowledge they are safely in a play-off position.

So playing lower placed clubs late in the season isn't always a good thing.

Possibly 😂 but at the same time,  it would be nice to have some transparency as to where the club is currently , just a little update.

Not expecting a weekly update but a few times a season would be nice to hear what their thoughts are, what’s happening in the background and anything us fans can look forward to. I don’t think it’s asking that much?

Glen, you have to remember the club only publish positive news - look at the club website news posts and you will see the trend – it’s called media manipulation.

Don't ask awkward questions as it upsets those in power.

Glen - you now have a black mark against your name!

You have to remember that the days of open communication from Steve Easterbrook have gone.

On my travels backwards looking for the Scott info, there is some confirmation about others that are "on contract" / committee to the club through this season which i suspect is the same thing. Those i saw are - Davies, Baylis, Ogbonna, Spazov, Parillon, Roth. These guys all were "mid/in" - season announcements as opposed to summer signings etc.

The more I think about it, the more I think Henry is the guy that might be off this week (that Scott referenced in his interview). Older player so less likely to be on a contract (thus a 7 dayer) and not one of "Project Davies" (younger players given an opportunity by Scott, possibly more loyal?)

That's a strange view on what has been said / not said SR1965.

We clearly have a budget for the playing squad. That is set at X amount and hopefully it has been done sustainably for the club. If Player A wants to go to Team B for more money than we are willing to pay (either on value or principle) then let him go and get his money and we'll move on. We did this in the summer with Goddard and it took him 4 months to realise whilst the money is great, the grass isn't always greener.

In addition, I want a sustainable club the develops over time by increasing attendances, sponsorships and a better and better ground (both physically and in experience). All of this in a longer term plan will pay dividends on the pitch but you can't put the cart before the horse. Given our history, i would have thought every Slough fan would want this.

As for "media-manipulation", call it what you want, but with the increase in attendance, sponsorships and match day experience, it's clearly working. It's very different to Neil, Jon and Steve's way of doing things, but we live in a different world than we did just a few short years ago.

For me, the club could do more with coms to the fans, but we will always want more and there are somethings that can't be handled in that way. As a great recent example, you got full honesty from Spencer about the way he felt Guy had treated Farnborough which may (or more likely not) been true. You then look at the interview Guy and Scott did after the Eastbourne game and tell me which club you'd rather play for!

Massive shame that one, but hopefully we can now look to start a mini reshape of the squad and kick on.

The only concern is that Scott has been trying to do a 'mini reshape' of the squad for at least the past few weeks and all that's materialized is ex rebel Guy Hollis.

We need reinforcements pretty sharpish.

Henry is certainly in the frame.

He's openly said he wants to get back into full time football and maybe an opportunity has come up.

If Leon goes to Southend it will be great for him to get full time football and hopefully progress his career.

The only cautionary thing I will say is unless he moves down that way it's at least a 2 hour drive and unless he gets off to a flyer and impresses he'll be travelling around the country sitting on the bench more often than he would like.

For Leon to progress he needs to be playing football.
