Ryman League - Hornchurch 4 Hitchin Town 0

Recommended Posts

This was the first league meeting between the two clubs in over 40 years.

Vinnie John staggered off the pitch with a towell clutched to his face looking very dazed after only 3 minutes following a clash of heads with Hitchin's John Bone to be replaced by Andy Douglas, who had his chance to impress. And that he did only 5 minutes later when he finished off a good move from midfield, prodding home past keeper Richard Wilmot after a perfectly weighted ball from Mark Graham. Danny Gay did well to push wide a cross from Jim Duffy in the 13th minute but it turned out to be a rare chance for the visitors and after some sustained pressure we extended our lead ten minutes before half time. John Martin slotted home with the keeper stranded after a Bertie Brayley shot spun up off a defenders legs. Brayley himself made it 3-0 two minutes later, heading in from 6 yards after Andy Douglas go to the byeline and pulled it back at a perfect height.

The second half struggled to get going what with a liberal referee's whistle and Hitchin's effective offside trap, but after a scramble in our area following a Hitchin corner with 15 minutes left we managed to regain the flow in our game. The fourth goal which was a long time coming came with 3 minutes to go from the spot, John Martin converting after John Keeling was bundled over in the area.

Line-up:- Gay, Gooding, Kerrigan, Adedeji, Matthews, Locke (Williams 67), Graham, J Martin, John (Douglas 3), Brayley (Keeling 73), McGowan. Subs not used:- Cowley, McCartney (GK)

Yes, this was the perfect set up for Burton Albion next Saturday.

We seemed to be lacking confidence in recent weeks but the second half against Stevenage and todays game seems to have helped regain that edge we had earlier in the season.

I really beleive we can now go on to beat Albion anf get to the quarter finals. Then, who knows...

Bring em on!
