Chelmsford have just lost their best player this season as he’s been recalled back to Ipswich.

...and unsurprisingly they've brought in some new loanees - including Finley Wilkinson who was most recently at St Albans.

Not getting over-excited about our new signing to be announced at 7pm.

They’ve also now just brought his brother in from Ipswich 🤣

Na, its the twin brother of another player they had last season.

...meanwhile St Albans have the resources to sign a new striker on an 18-month contract. They're certainly going to throw some money at trying to avoid the drop.

Harrison Smith, obviously let go by Stevenage after a loan at Worthing was ended.

3 goals from 18 games where he pretty much sat on the bench every week starting just 2 games.

I hope the kid does well, and he’s the prolific goal scorer we’ve needed but I don’t even understand how he gets into our first 11.

I think we will switch to two forwards now we have lost Tuck, but surely he’s behind Hutchinson/Chukwu in the pecking order anyways?

I think he’s been offered to us, and we aren’t getting any other business done so we’ve gone and taken it.

What I don’t get is if you only want to play one forward in Chukwu, you’d surely focus on your recruitment on bolstering the positions around? This gives me reason to believe we are switching it to two.

Just what we need an 18 year old told forward to make it 4 when we only play one up.

I don’t mind managers making mistakes  it when you keep making the same one it screams incompetence.

Thats has Shakpoke written all over it. Gav has no idea of academy and is constantly blown over by the whiff of a pro club letting a kid go on loan.

Genuine question, don’t those two statements contradict each other?

If he’s prolific and he’s jtbe prolific striker we’ve been looking for then surely he plays?

How, where or when anyone has decided he’s prolific is another question. The kids played and scored at step 5! That’s the level below Sittingbourne FFS…..surely if he was any sort of success at step 4 with St Ives they’d have either kept him or we’d be stating his goal record for them this season??

He’s definitely going to be used. They must have agreed on something that lets him get game time and improve here. He hasn’t just come here to sit on the bench for a month and play a few minutes at the back end of a game while we’re losing 3-0.

I hope he does really well for us in a short time, and proves to his parent club that he deserves more minutes in a struggling Cambridge side. Good luck to him and no doubt the majority will back him.

What I meant was, I hope if he does play he is prolific and really good, but I don’t understand how he would get into the first 11 when we only play 1 striker and we just signed Chukwu less then a month ago.

Now I realise, Kaunda will 100% be used in a double striker formation with one of Hutch or Chukwu. He hasn’t come here to sit on the bench for 87 minutes. I also can’t see him being a lone striker at 18 in a league he’s not experienced. He will get bullied, and he will need help.

I agree with that to a degree but….Gav signed and then made Hutchinson, Cox, Tuck, Chukwu all sit on the bench before starting them….

Cambridge will see any minutes as a bonus for a player of that age. They will expect him to earn any minutes he has but will also know scattered minutes will still be beneficial to a young players who only had mins at step 4 and only managed goals at step 5….step 2 is a huge step up from either of those.

Chukwu has been a real let down and I was prepared to like him and was the first to say how well I thought he played against us…..I also said from day 1 I felt he’d suit playing with Hutchinson.

Is Chuk on contract? Could he disappear in the same way Shakpoke did 🤣

No matter what anyone says I still find it mindboggling for Gav to wait until a striker who’s scored against the likes of Wrexham, Chesterfield, Bromley and Ebsfleet to start scoring….to start leaving him out 🤷‍♂️

Interesting to read that Chelmsford have been having similar recruitment issues. They've even increased their budget significantly, so are clear that money hasn't been the issue. Seems to be that there simply aren't enough of the right calibre players around.

I'm afraid this signing does on the face of it appear to be a 'Shakpoke' Mach #2. I find myself agreeing with everyone's favourite piss-boiler, Towning, that Hutchinson needed to be given more time on the pitch as part of a duo. Without having seen anything of our new loanee, I'd put Jake up top with Chukwu - not because I think they will form some kind of dynamic/telepathic partnership, but because I think there's a chance that Chukwu might be enough of a nuisance to distract the defenders and allow Jake to sneak in and bag a couple.

I agree with that. We saw that with Ottoway and it wasn’t pretty on the eyes, but they did bag a couple of goals or assists together.

I just don’t see how they would let him come here, at the right rock bottom of the table and not put something in the fine print that says he has to play X amount of minutes/games. Mind you, like Towning said - every minute is a good minute at that age, but I don’t know.

I think he will slowly be introduced into the 11, just maybe not against Chelmsford like we’ve seen with Tuck, Hutch and a few others that have came that haven’t started instantly.
