St Albans 0 Billericay 2

In the first half Billericay were much the better side with St Albans defence being absent without leave almost every time Billericay went forward. Billericay’s first goal came with a quarter of an hour played when Graeme Tomlinson headed on a long ball to Chris Stowe who in acres of space waited for the St Alban Keeper with a rather fetching mullet to go to ground and slot it coolly past him. For Billericay’s second goal Chris Stowe broke down the right and crossed the ball into the bok were Tomlinson’s shoot could only be palmed upwards by the Albans keeper and Steve Jones bravely came in to head to the ball into the empty net and was knocked out in the process a few minutes later after another clash of heads he was brought off for Andy Jones. Michael Black had the chance to score to put the result beyond doubt but failed to make contact with a wild swing when certain to score. In the second half St Albans came out with a renewed purpose and looked a totally different team from their first half performance they looked a lot sharper and more organised up front hitting the bar on an open goal and Luke Weaver was forced to make a couple of good saves. In the dying minutes Andy Jones had the chance to make it 3 for town but hit the post.

This was the sort of game that Billericay may have thrown a month or so a go with the opposition piling forward but Billericay clung onto a clean sheet and all 3 points.

Weaver, Graham, Taylor, Henty Sappleton, Black, Stowe, Dormer, Davidson, Tomilson, S. Jones Subs used: Aviz, Tolan, A. Jones Subs not used: Reddington, John

A great result, which means we are finally off the bottom of the table looking down on Braintree and Aylesbury.

Good to see Stowe continuing his scoring and Weaver keeping a clean sheet. We've remarkably only let 2 goals in the last 5 games.

We now need to keep this run going as Hendon and Thurrock at home are going to be tough games.

And the bar-hitting incident.

Most of your fans were probably hitting the bar after the first half performance!!

agree that it the first half it was all us, and if i was a st albans fan i would be spitting feathers over your number 5's performance, he was shocking and played a part in our two goals. The second half was always going to see us on the back foot as st albans needed to win this as much as we did, but w did have chances to kill the game off in the second half. At 2-0 up, anyone have flashbacks to aylesbury!

The all the lads played well today, luke made some great saves in the second half, thought the decision to take stowey off was a little odd considering everything we created came through him. Does anyone know if we are going to sign him up, hope we do as he is scoring goals and creating, just wish he wouldnt try the over ambitious some times.

Well done to all the lads, the improvement has been amazing over the last month and now we are getting wins aswell.

Well I was well looking forward to this game after a 2 week lay off and the first half didn't disapoint. A clinical goal from Chris Stowe and a brave detirmined goal from Steve Jones, which saw him briefly injured and needing attention. The second half saw us with our backs against the wall and I agree, in October / November we would've hit the panic button but the growing confiedence and expierence of team is showing.

Difficult to pick out any player from the team and I could go with Weaver, Stowe, Tomlinson, Black, Dormer or Sappleton but for me, Steve Jones is my man of the match. He showed that he has come on as a player, mixing his skill and pace down the right flank with a toughness which is an example for all if we are to get out of the relegation zone into a play offs.

Anyway, well done the lads. To quote Justin after the game, "one game at a time" but I am looking forward to Tuesdays game against Hendon.

All good stuff - another win - a goal from midfield - another clean sheet and we're off the bottom

Thought the loss of Steve Jones upset the balance of the team a bit, probably allowed the Stalebuns left flank a bit more joy going forward as well.

Dormer was excellent in centre mid, a real "captains innings", but then everybody was excellent.

We've got two games coming up that will be a LOT tougher than Stalebuns so I'm not getting carried away, but the confidence is there and we're battling well as a team.

i think cor summed up the game pretty well, i thought we were different gravy first half and in the second we seemed a bit unsure whether to try and sit on the lead or keep attacking and this handed the initiative to st albans. we missed tomlinson when he went wide as we had no one to hold the ball up up front. i think that was why stowe was replaced, so that aziz could play in midfield and let tomlinson go back up front. it will be interesting to see if stowe keeps his place on tuesday when kk will be available again.

reckon we had about 70 dotted around the ground although i was surprised by the low turn out of home support as i had always believed st albans to be a well supported team at this level.

perhaps they have all got pissed off with paying 2 quid for the sack of [****!!****] they call a program although having said that the burger was top drawer and the best i've encountered this season

two home games agst 4 th and 5th coming up but i wouldnt worry unduly about league positions cos canvey apart this league is much of a muchness so hopefully the lads will be confident and keep up the good form.

really impressed with the way we played first half, should have gone in more than 2 up. second half we looked torn between defending our lead or going for it. Thought davidson, dorms and sappers were a different class. Good to see a good turn-out of blues, well over a 100 i reckon, not bad considering we've been bottom for ages
