St Albans 2-1 Enfield Town

3-2

Saints are on an upward trajectory following their management change. With Charles and Banton up front I expect them to out-gun us. Always hoping for a surprise though. I remain traumatised by the 2013 visit to Clarence Park when Town suffered a 6-1 hiding. I also miss their famous tree!

Something has to change at half time. We cannot keep doing the same thing every week and expect something different!!

We’re 1-0 down to the side a point below us and playing one up front who’s not got a player near him for 30 yards and we’ve not troubled them at all!!!

It really wasn’t long ago we scored 3 goals at Tonbridge!!!! What had to change??

We’re going down without even a whimper…..

A local derby, a bumper crowd, a team below you, a chance to get within 6 points of safety and the clown starts with one forward again.

Not only that, he waits until the 75th minute to put on another forward….and guess what….HE TAKES OFF THE ONE WE HAVE AND DOES A LIKE FOR LIKE SWAP!!!!!

There was a period second half where we got the upper hand and were delivering the ball into the box. THATS THE TIME TO STRIKE AND PUT ON ANOTHER FORWARD!

What does this clown do? Waits and waits and waits…until momentum shifts again and does a like for like.

That was us down. Right there. Today. At St Albans.

5 or 6 really good, dangerous balls into the box that half, which we've either missed, mishit or had nobody gambling. Think there might be more goals, but they look as likely as we do. Fingers crossed

Totally agree we've had plenty of good balls in but we just aren't finishing them...we aren't lacking players in the box like previous weeks so don't feel like not having 2 up front is the problem, we just can't finish

Sometimes you make me laugh....when we are competing in midfield better, getting good service from the wings, who would you like to bring off to put on the other striker?? I know let's just play 2 at the back 🤦‍♀️

Have to agree with others. for me the season died when Hutchinson came on as a straight replacement. Feel I’ve been supportive of Gavin up to today but he is not someone who is going to put a string of wins together if he won’t take a chance on a must win game.

I thought St Albans were pretty dire today too but we weren’t any better to be honest. Just lacking something up top. So many balls flash past the goal and no one wants to jump on one or be in a correct position. I struggle to understand it.

It’s not a coincidence the games Adam Thompson has been out, we have been struggling as a unit. Injuries have been a part of his career though.

Quite sad how this season has shaped up to be. Thought we was going to make a run of it multiple times but they turn out to be nothing really

Ok I’ll try and talk really slowly to help you understand something quite simple.

We currently have a right back (Parcell), playing in the centre of midfield. We also have a ball winning monster of a man with limited technical ability (Brown( playing as an attacking midfield player. And we have an attacking midfielder who makes great runs into the box from deep and scores goals (Youngs) playing as a second forward where he’s put the game too deep and easily marked.

So I’d propose we play Brown as a midfield player alongside Tuck. Then is play Youngs in front of them as an attacking midfielder supporting a front two of Chukwu and Hutchinson.
Seems simple enough to me especially when it’s so clear that Chukwu and Hutchinson offer such different things and one (Chukwu) offers more outside the box and the other (Hutchinson) offers much more inside the box….you know….seeing as we’re providing so much more service from wide areas now….

Glad someone’s said it.

Not playing with two strikers is not the SOLE issue of why we are 24th.

There are many different issues as to why we haven’t performed well consistently in 24 games. Playing with Hutchinson and Chukwu upfront might be a ‘fix’ but we will never know because Gavin clearly doesn’t think that would help get results at the moment. But I can also point to a couple other issues we have in 90 minutes.

Gavin is quite adamant on Youngs playing as a second forward. Is this the right choice? I don’t know as I’m not in training twice a week watching what is happening. He clearly thinks this is what we are ‘best’ suited to.

Quite frankly, we just don’t have the quality, budget, or knowhow to survive in this league yet. When that comes, if it does, we’ll have a better chance of survival next time, if we ever grace this league again.
