Leon signs contract

To play devils advocate and don’t shoot me down but is the main reason for signing players to contract for next season to get some sort of fee if they do decide to move on? I know it’s great to hear they’re invested in next season but we have all seen it time and time again players commit to next season only decide to move on.

Certainly a bit of both I’d say. Obviously we want to secure our best players naturally but if the bigger boys do come knocking the club are safe knowing it’ll take a decent fee to release them. Although we had that with #Prutigate but I hope the club have learnt from that one!

Does anyone (ideally Scott as he’d 100% know) have an updated list of all our contracted players?

I'd say the only reasons are to get players to commit for next season and if a bigger club does come in for them we can ask for a fee.

Unfortunately we all know from past experience that if a bigger club doesn't want to pay a fee as per Edon Pruti the club will not stand in the way of progressing their career.

We'd just have to hope that a club wants them enough to pay a fee as per Maidenhead and Max Kilman.

The way I see it is that we are developing a squad of players in & around their mid twenties that are doing well at this level & should still have the ability & drive to want to develop & play at a higher level in the next two to three seasons.

Bayliss, Beeden, Ochieng, Parillon, Gilbert, Ogbonna, Amartey, Spasov…… I would say all have done well so far this season & will be even better players next season.

They are not going to be players that will attract transfer fees from Football League clubs…… Max Kilman was a 20 year old playing at National League level when he was signed by Wolves…… but they could be the players that give us a good chance of promotion to the National League in the next three seasons.

Henry Ochieng has already expressed a desire to get into the football league but whether a club will be willing to pay a fee for a 26/27 year old is open to question.

The other players mentioned would have to improve considerably to get into a league club but certainly an NL club could be tempted.
