What a performance. Really worth the trip to the seaside with that performance. Proud of the boys for not giving up.

Deserved the three points today but I won’t scoff at 4 points over 2 games against title contenders. The morale in the dressing room has to be much improved after the last week.

I think we’ve unlocked the best formation for us. 3–5-2 with Peake and Leonard as wingbacks. Performances improved massively under this new system and stick Thompson at the back for Payne and we are much capable of staying up this season.

My MOTM was Bayley Brown, was everywhere today and he wins everything. His linkup play is amazing and he does all the little things. He is a very hard worker and him and Chukwu when he came on were great together. Surprised he took him off to be honest as he was doing everything in midfield but he’s still getting to game shape.

Chukwu was great when he came on, I’m really glad we signed him when it became possible. We should be looking to start him with Hutchinson or Youngs. He wins everything in the air and is just so aerially dominant.

One of Leonards best games for us aswell, Peake and Tuck great as usual. Thought Parcell and Benjamin stepped it up in the second half as-well.

Honestly, we should of had three points today, but I will not complain about a last minute winner against a team trying to get promoted. I thought they were really poor today for where they are in the league. Officials were very poor like every week also but I’m used to it.

What a smash and grab!

Nothing about today was a smash and grab. We was the much better side for the majority of the game. Sure, a bit lucky at the end with the keeper but I wouldn’t say smash and grab.

Just on the train back now - another really good point against a side who, on paper, should have been much better than us. Definitely not a smash and grab as others have said - we started slowly and it looked like there was only going to be one side in it for the first 30 or so, but towards the end of the first half we started to get more of a foothold in the game. Peake and Leonard as wing backs are very attacking options, and much of what we do well comes through Peake when he gets the ball in advanced areas. The 3 in CM compliment each other well, with Brown's energy and mobility matched well with Tuck's finesse and ball retention and Parcell bringing a bit of everything. Impressed with Hawkins too, their CF is clearly a complete handful, but he stuck with it and after the goal managed him pretty well. Decent on the ball too, and I think it's going to be hard to drop him even with Thompson and Cox available. Shout out to Payne, who although probably not a first choice, battled hard all game.

Second half we started off how we finished the first, and had more of the ball than them, moving it around well, and working a couple of chances that weren't quite clear cut, but we might have done a bit better from. Chukwu looked decent enough when he came on, and adds mobility and a presence / focal point. Granted Weston had chances too, as we committed players forwards (although I think there were fouls in the build up to two of them), but we kept on going and looked much more like a team that's at home at this level than most of the games I've seen. We had faded I thought with 5 or 10 to go, and I'd resigned myself to a plucky 1-0 defeat (no shame in that). That was until a positive run down the right from Dylan, who was brought down for a foul leading to a really good delivery from Peake, which Hawkins won, but  which really shouldn't have troubled any keeper at this level. Somehow it found its way in, and whilst they might have complaints about how soft it was, I don't think anyone can begrudge us a point from the game. All in all a good week and an excellent response after the disaster that was last Saturday, maybe there is life in us yet?

Great post Barney. Agree with everything.

Bayley Brown definitely my MOTM, followed by Hawkins. Both have fit in just perfectly, and I’m no longer worried when Cox leaves as Hawkins is as good if not better. I’m glad Gavin got him after being interested in him for months.

Chukwu really impressed me to be honest. I think he’s what we’ve been dying for upfront. He’s not scared to get involved, can drag defenders with him and gives us another focal point in the attack. Him and Bayley Brown will be immense together in my opinion, just like we saw today for around 15 minutes. I’m not sure if Gavin wants to take the Hutchinson/Chuks route or Youngy/Chuks but I think you can’t drop him after what he offered today. Properly playing with something to prove today when he came on for 30 and he gives us another tall body in the box for crosses by Peake and Leonard.
