Given the unsurprising amount of postponements decided to play “safe” and opt for my nearest unvisited 3G option. Guess that many on here will have visited the site of Luton Town’s training ground. A very basic ground with a smallish stand on the half way line and a small piece of cover towards the corner on the near side. There is no clubhouse as such but a simple room where teas etc can be purchased. Very limited facilities but for the crowds they get is more than adequate. Looking at other matches it seems today’s crowd was boosted owing to many other postponements.
The visitors were rooted to the foot of the table with 2 draws and defeats in all their remaining matches. The hosts were just 3 places higher.
CG played with the wind in the first half but went behind to a 3rd minute penalty, an easy decision for the referee for the foul by the keeper. Generally, CG struggled to get into the game and kept playing the ball too long, not making enough allowance for the wind. They did hit the bar with an excellent effort from distance not long before the break and both sides had chances where it looked easier to score.
At half time CG made a couple of changes and had the upper hand. The equaliser came on the hour mark – a header following a free kick and a couple of other opportunities were spurned. STC weren’t out of it and had a go towards the end and scored with a shot from outside the box with a few minutes to go. The celebrations of the visitors at the end showed how much the win meant to them.
Both sides played better playing into the wind. One other incident of note was that the match ball had to be changed after about 30 seconds as under inflated. Surely the ref will have checked that before kick off.
