A quick look at the excellent Historical Archive on the website

Whilst on the subject on the Historical Archive, I heartily recommend taking a look through this match report from a 2-2 draw in 1900, which according to the Archive was the first time we played each other.

I've no idea where the report came from, but why can't present-day reports be written like this? 🤣😂😄

Also notice that A.Gomm played for Maidenhead that day. Ade?

A quick look at the excellent Historical Archive on the website, it seems that having been regular opponents throughout the 1940's, 50's & 60's, we last played each other (as regular opponents I mean) in 1974. Since then our only competitive matches (outside the Mickey Mouse cups) have both come in the year 2000/01.

Tottenham & Arsenal play each other at least twice a season year in year out, and have done so almost every year (the exception being the 1977/78 season) since 1950.

Alongside Aylesbury United, Hayes and Dagenham & Redbridge etc. Who here deems these to still be rivals? Rivalries need fixtures, or people will eventually move on.

Hopefully next Saturday can be the start, as I think we're sorely missing out on a proper local rivalry (one that actually gets the blood pumping, the type of fixture we look out for when the fixture list is released). Farnborough and Hampton may be local but neither do this for me.

Spot on Nathan with your last paragraph, my point exactly.

Isn't it the age-old football paradox? Flamboyant and exciting players becoming dour percentage-orientated managers while tough, defensive players sometimes field exciting attacking teams as managers. Maybe it reflects what used frighten them most.

Talking about rivalries, for me, growing up in the 80s, it was Windsor & Eton.

Remember the season we won the league, Wokingham and Aylesbury (probably, because, from memory Wokingham ran us close and we never seemed to beat the Ducks).

But those fixtures are distance memories..

Never really go the Wycombe rivalry, as we didn't really play them regular enough to be classed as rivals (in my opinion).

Playing Wycombe, was like playing a league side in the FACup at Wexham Park.

Anyone who says Wycombe are our rivals, I just don't get.

Its a bit like Torquay (not as in rivals, but the Wycombe example how times change), I remember playing Torquay in the FA Cup with them being a league side, never would I have thought many years later we would have been playing them in the same league.

In recent years, Chesham for me.

Indeed, I didn't start watching Slough until 1980 but for me the Wycombe rivalry was the fiercest.

We played them every season in the 80's apart from a couple,  then we regularly played them in the Conference until they got promoted.

The 4-1 win at Loakes Park around Xmas 1980 remains one of my fondest memories...

I remember the Wycombe and Maidenhead rivalry being mainly in the 60's 70's and early 80's.

The fiercest rivalry was always Wycombe then Maidenhead.

In more recent times Chesham became a rival but to a much lesser extent than Wycombe or Maidenhead.

It all depends on your age/era you were brought up in.

Definitely at the time, can't remember the exact match but there were bricks flying at one of them...

Oh dear.

Just looked at the supporters trust site and there's a very angry person on there.

He's bought a seat for the season because his Wife has MS and needs a seat and is now being told by the club that they are not guaranteed a seat.

He's threatening to ask for a refund and not buy a season ticket next season.

Just to add the club are not charging for seating so why have it on a first come first served basis?

There are people who have purchased a seat for the season for medical/health reasons so why not have it as per a normal match day that reserved seating remains in force to guarantee a seat for those that need one.

I paid for a couple of reserved seats for the season, and the Club have just e-mailed announcing that reserved seats will be in place for this match.

I hadn’t contacted the Club on this, so I’m assuming all who usually have reserved seats will have received this e-mail.

Yep me too. Good work from the club, listening to feedback.
