Maidenhead United

Familiar story at Maidenhead, but Devonshire knows the league and as usual he will see them rise just above the strugglers.  They will inevitably pull off some surprise results and as long as they take points off those around them then survive they will.

They had James Golding on loan from Oxford Utd., who was decent in midfield. He's now been recalled, which has left a bit of a gap.

I'd love it if they were in our league mind.

I've got it on fairly good authority as well that they will not be using any of the Kilman money on players to get themselves out of trouble going forward.

All the money is being kept for the new ground project.

Pretty certain that stance will change if they’re still bottom 4 come March/April!!!

I think Doris Day summed it up well all those years ago.

Possibly but from what I've heard the powers that be have said none of that money is available to the Managers to use and don't expect it to be.

As mentioned, who knows but originally some money was earmarked for the club generally including the Women's section but as the ground decision got changed that hasn't happened.  The Kilman deal was first muted before the change of plan from the council or whomever reversed the Braywick agreement so now the money plans have changed.

Who knows, I know a few people close to the club plus my daughter plays for the Women's team so the coaches talk but who knows if in the depths of trouble later in the season. 🤷‍♂️

Their board surely wouldn’t risk relegation knowing they have the funds to bring in players who could keep them up? Would be bad management especially knowing how hard it is to get out of this league. Unless it’s a cunning plan, get relegated and a new stadium will be cheaper to fund with less red tape?

Oh I'm sure not but the feeling around the club initially was that funds would be plentiful but they are now not being risked.

Is this the season it finally catches up with them...

Will this be the first time we have played at home to Maidenhead since 2001?

This must be a fantastic opportunity to fill our stadium…… and with their reluctance to play against us in pre-season friendlies due to our 3G pitch, I really fancy our chances.

When do tickets go on sale?

I think there reluctance to play on 3G in pre season friendlies is more down to the manager's preference than the players.

This would appear to be the first time the two clubs have met in a national knockout competition since 1959-just after the "manager/player exchanges" of that summer when five of our first team players made the short journey across the river with four of theirs (and some others from their previous seasons' teams) moving in the opposite direction. That set them up for almost a decade of success while the season after we finished bottom of the league. It constituted a harsh introduction to the then world of "senior amateur" football.
