Harley Mills Recalled

Recommended Posts

Peterborough have recalled Harley.

Clearly feel that the lad has endured enough!

Enthusiastic, good over a dead ball, great engine. Work to do if he's going to cut it in the Football League, but good luck to the lad.

Amazing player at this level, agree he’s got a few bits to improve if he wants to cut it at league one. Wish him well for everything though.

Never stops running, defensively sound and our best dead ball player, could of scored a few freekicks and is an amazing crosser of the ball. He will be dearly missed I personally think.

Once again we now have to change our defense again, which is alright because that’s the risk of getting loanees from bigger parent clubs but it’s unsettling once again.

Now that's no surprise!!!

Unless we you have something to offer them would you allow your young players with ability to stay at a club in our position. What are they likely to learn??

We are getting near to the time when some heads have to lifted out of the sand. Other wise we will end up like East Thurrock

Relegation? Probably. But liquidation? I very much doubt it. Not least because we can always flog the new 400-seater stand to whichever club replaces us!

But very empty!

Maybe 5 people sitting in it on a Tuesday evening game Vs Cray Wanderers.

Aren’t they doing extra seating behind the goals too or something?

Atleast that will get filled for a big game against Hashtag United

I thought the original loan was 1 month, so probably no big surprise that he's gone back to his parent club (of course it would have been nice to extend it, but that may have never been the intention from Peterborough). I would argue that playing in a side scrapping against relegation, and working hard to try to turn that around (which he definitely was) is probably a very useful experience for a young player from a pro club - certainly more useful than benchwarming for one of the bigger sides in the league.

Just out of curiosity - and this isn't directed just at you, as others are expressing similar opinions - but who do you think has their head in the sand, and what do you think needs to be done to rectify it? Obviously any major changes have to be done within the context of how much money we have available, and who we have as volunteers willing to run the club.

Not sure why the negative comments on the new stand. It is a requirement for this level . So even if we get relegated it is always useful to have the correct capacity for when we do go up again. It will also be a boon for the half a dozen big attendances we will still get in the level below. The extra space behind the goals was needed before we progressed to the National League, so that will be useful as well.

In answer to your question Barney, they are the ones for    several years have been willing for us to remain midtable in the Isthmian league. Who would rather be a Social Club with a football team than the other way round...*

I have always appreciated your comments but not to acknowledge they exist would be naive, to say the least.

Obviously our predicament is that we are constantly financially stretched. This controls all areas of the club.  This could instantly be helped by ie increasing gate fees or another Fund raising schemes etc. Of course members and supporters would have to ask for their views to see if they are happy to support this.

But this would be a start for the future.

Supporters only have a limited amount of spare cash so another crowd funding scheme wouldn’t, I think, be in the pipeline at the moment. Increasing gate fees may bring in more cash, but increasing the number of people through the gates would be even better. However, we need a winning team to do that.

I don't think there's anyone associated with the club who wants/wanted to stay at the level below indefinitely, but as we're finding out the hard way, making the step up to NLS needs to be made at the right time, and with the right infrastructure in place to provide sufficient revenue streams to make it sustainable. I really hope we can find a way to avoid the drop, as the second season might be easier (although Aveley would disagree), but things are not looking good. Is staying upper mid table, or in the play off places at Step 3 preferable to going up to Step 2 and coming straight back down again? I'm torn on that one, I'm enjoying the adventure, the new grounds etc. and am convinced that NLS is where this club should be (and will be) in the long-term, but that long term might take another 10 or 20 years to arrive at.

Unfortunately I doubt I can wait even a couple of years Barney. So that is why I may appear to be so down beat !!!

I would therefore like to add to my previous post and state I still hope that Gavin will pull the rabbit out of the hat with a couple of good signings. Also that we start to have our share of good fortune for the rest of the season.

Over and above that, with no offence to you, I hope your time scale is wrong for the sake of all other members.

I hate being negative as over the years this club has brought me some great memories, I’m a younger supporter as some would say so I don’t remember much of the Enfield FC days (only stories or what not) as some of you might or the early years of Enfield Town (once again, stories) but I started going from an early age as I liked the idea of non-league over the sort of Tottenhams or Arsenals and I was lucky for my dad to be around for the earlier days of Enfield.

As I’m just a regular going fan every week, trying to make the atmosphere louder to get behind the team and I’m not in member meetings or whatever happens closely with some of the fans and the board, and I’m guessing some of us on here are closer to what’s going on behind the scenes, I don’t think I can truly understand what the board is going through at this current moment in time with revenue, to keep it more sustainable. Does anyone know what’s been suggested to people higher to make it a little bit easier on Gavin with budget issues?

And I hate to keep going on about Wyllie - he’s gone and on to better things but was the sale of him needed to progress as a club or was it due to the fact we felt like we was holding him back to go and play in the football league? Yes, he played a massive part in us going up of course, but whether we like it or not he has played a massive part in us going straight back down, and I feel like the least he owed to us for really putting him on the map was just another season or even half a season in the NLS, to keep us stable in this level. Maybe I am looking at this selfishly but I’d like to get other people’s views on that also.

Alas, that is one of the first things which goes as we age, 4WF.

What we really need is a substantial cash injection. The best means of achieving that is via a lucrative FA Cup run - perhaps culminating in a tie against Spurs in the 3rd Round. To date we've had brief glimpses of FA Cup success, but no TV money to really fill the coffers. Eventually the law of averages tell us that it will have to happen. So here's hoping for 25/26 to be our year!

I don't think you are being negative with your comments E2000 as I have thought and said more or less the same.

It appears that I have been around a lot longer than you. But we still share the same sentiments.

The last time that I felt like this was after going to the Enfield FC conference match at Barrow.  We lost 9-nil mainly due to our goalie and several other players failing to turn for the coach. Shortly after we were relegated to the Isthmian league.

At least while up there I went back to see the small town I was evacuated to in 1942. But what happened that day has always left a nasty taste in my mouth. Especially as at the end of the previous decade we had been named as the Semi Pro League journals as the team of the 1980's.

Hopefully, if we don't get ourselves out of our current mess this year better times will return for you to see.

Thanks to CC's earlier comment I have recovered by line up!!!!!!

It was Runcorn who beat us 9-0 4WF.   Actually, I wish that I had been in Barrow that day!
