v Truro City

Recommended Posts

Big test against an in form side who sit 3rd in the table.

It's now 4 games without a win so important for us to get back to winning ways.

Reportedly Truro are a big physical direct side and have the leagues top striker in Tyler Harvey who has scorer 11 goals already this season.

They are high flying with an excellent home record (18pts)! Away they've  won just twice  by a single goal margin against teams currently 15th and 23rd !

2 wins 2 draws and 1 loss away from home and the best defence in the division isn't too shabby.

I mentioned this in the November fixtures post  They are playing the best attack in the division!  They have for years suffered away from home due to travelling distances imo we should have the edge in this one

A bit disappointed not to have taken 3 points at home hopefully someone present will post a report We've now gone 8 league games with 1 win only imo not good enough!

Makes our next home game with Bath one that requires maximum effort!

I think we need to be satisfied with a point against a team who could have gone top today. If we manage to beat Bath then 4 from 6 will be a very good return. But we do seem to be turning into draw specialists and need to find that killer touch.

Adrian, I was there. We’re currently sat 8th in the league behind 4 full time teams and 3 part time sides.

We’re also sat 12 points above the relegation zone line and 6 points off top with a game in hand.

If that’s not good enough then I don’t know what would be?! I’d be careful what you wish for when you see teams like Havant and Dartford go down last season.

This league certainly isn’t easy and we certainly don’t have the right to wipe the floor against any team in it.

Glen, you make a great point and it’s appreciated, thank you. 👍🏼

Scott Thanks for your comments and it's only the recent run that concerns me Can I ask you if you're  happy with 1 league win from 8?

Absolutely not, I’d love to win every game but that’s not possible. Surely you have to look at things as a whole? It’s unfair to ignore that we have 22 points in total. This time last season we had 13 points and were sat in 21st position, 3 points from safety, 11 points off the play offs and 19 points off top, yet this season the division is even more difficult.

It was announced 866 but the website has it as 861? An acceptable crowd I’d say and if can keep in and around the play offs hopefully we can maintain at least a 900+ average.

Not good enough for Curtis.

He thinks we can easily average 1,000+

Not a spectacle but an enjoyable watch in which I thought we played well against a really physical and direct side.

You can certainly see why Truro are at the top of the division with their no nonsense style of defensive play, a striker who is a hand full who works his socks off and is the leagues top scorer.

It certainly felt like a win after going 1-0 down so late on and looking very much like the game was over for us.

Full credit to the team for battling back and getting a well deserved point.

This could have gone either way so I feel a draw was a fair result against a well organised and talented side, though our equaliser was fortuitous as it came from a scuffed cross that the ref inexplicitly gave a corner for! Until then we'd hadn't seriously tested their keeper.

I wasn't convinced by the decision to award Gilbert MOTM; Bayliss would have been my choice as he barely put a foot wrong all match, whereas Gilbert had a decent game but was also very wasteful when shooting. And then he got sent off mere seconds after MOTM was announced!

As Irishadrian rightly says though it's now 1 win from 8 league games, which isn't obviously good form (though Hemel and Tonbridge also appear to be in freefall after excellent starts). With the early-season excitement of being top now over, is it time to evaluate our expectations for the season?

I think this is wishful thinking Irishadrian 😉; I don't know what it is about this forum, but I have a 2+ hour drive home and I often get home and log in here only to find that no-one's (or very few people have) posted, even after good results.

Starting to feel we are in a false position in terms of points on the board etc , weve done well to get as many points as we have but weve had an easier run than other teams that generally finish higher than us , we need a left back as never replaced Gabe or Tyrese and a centre back to cover Bayliss and Beeden , I'm hoping Ufuah doesn't come back to haunt us as well in the trophy,  also with an upcoming Gilbert suspesion, that's where Lenchy would have got his chance and now short in that area. It's been very frustrating watching the last couple of home games seeing us being blunt In attack, not the football weve seen like last season at home

15 of our points were won in August 14 of our goals were scored in August  things haven't really gelled since.

Going by our budget and squad size alone we probably are in a false position.

We've had an excellent start to the season which is probably the reason why we've not brought in a left back, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Also by playing attacking football, especially at home with 3 at the back means so far this season we've managed without a left back.

Again whilst we've got players who can cover in the center back position why spend money bringing someone in?

It all boils down to how we're performing, so far so good.

I'm sure the club would love to reach the play-offs on a shoestring budget but i'm sure our owners priority whilst we are spending money on the facilities at AP is just to stay in this division and then plan for next season.
