ETFC v Chesham

Re the first Chesham penalty: Xavier Benjamin had been unceremoniously dumped off the pitch. The ref went to check on him but didn't award a free kick - fair enough. Benjamin then decided to change his boots. I have no complaint with the ref not allowing him to immediately rejoin the game - particularly because the ref did exactly the same thing when Mitchell Weiss went to change his boots shortly before! Its unfortunate that Chesham were able to take advantage, but thems the breaks!

'Interesting' day for Sam Youngs - scored a penalty, but managed to concede 2 penalties and get himself sent off!

I’m confident when the Chesham player went on the sidelines he was allowed to run back on when

1. The ball hasn’t got out

So then when Oyenuga is on the sidelines, it’s already an 11v10 and Sam has to cover because our player isn’t allowed to come back on which they just let the Chesham player do a minute before! It’s a rule for them and another for ours. The ref was awful today even if you ignore the penalties. Multiple times where he calls the game back and gives a foul to us when we are on the break and we already have the ball where he should be playing advantage!

Referee....I was sat next to the FA assessor and after the Youngs red card said he's going to be busy.   He replied that he'd have to look at the video although even I sensed as an ex referee that referees do act differently when being assessed and less said there the better I think

Quoting this because I hope this is true, he is clearly not fit to referee at this level as he can’t get a game under control

That's a really good point and I'd forgotten that was when the penalty had happened. Oyenuga was missing from the right back position. Should the ref have waited till he was ready? Could he have rejoined himself without permission because it wasn't an injury?

Yes, he should be allowed to, or even then don’t let their player walk back on when he was changing his boot a minute before! It’s completely unfair how that penalty is conceded, and it’s not even a penalty! Sam never has to do that if Oyenuga is allowed to come back on and help.

Nope. I was watching carefully and as I say, Mitchell Weiss was not allowed to rejoin the game immediately. The difference was that Chesham were on the attack whilst he was off the pitch, and we were defending when Oyenuga decided to change his boots. The ref at least was consistent with that decision - and I think correct.

As for the penalty decisions, well he probably got 2 out of 3 wrong - I'll comment on the last once the highlights are out. Not sure about the Ottaway penalty shout as it was hit hard from relatively close - but then if he's being consistent he has to award it.

Wonder whether the red card means we won't be hearing from Gav this week?

I'd love to know what mark the assessor was going to give him yesterday....apparently it can all change on a key match decision and there were three of those yesterday.

Sam's penalty tackle.   Didn't look shoulder to shoulder (I was a long way away) but also think players have got to be aware enough to shuffle over if a player has gone off to change footwear.

Chesham's handball from a yard away

Sam's second penalty for blocking a shot on the line.   If the referee saw it as handball then he'd have no choice but to dismiss him for denying a goalscoring opportunity which was obviously different to the 2 previous penalties.

That said, we were better, but still think we need more in midfield and a focal point to hold the ball up front and give our defence a break whilst occupying other teams so we can get higher up the pitch.

Main difference between the two sides yesterday  was there number 4 jack cawley I thought he was really impressive he had a dangerous long throw and marshalled there defence really well I’m surprised he’s not playing at a higher level he’s just the type of player we need

Anybody just see the awful decision made to give Chelsea a penalty? Play acting by a player who went down as though he had been shot. Just shows that referees at all levels can make mistakes, especially when players try their level best to cheat to get decisions to go in their favour.

I understand referees make mistakes at every level but when it’s that favourable to one team.. We should of had a pen right at the end Ottoway shoots and it hits the guys arm in an unnatural position. It’s just little fouls aswell not playing advantages which hurt us a lot yesterday. Obviously can’t just blame the referee we should of been more on the front foot after leading but it was awful yesterday

Just seen the highlights

1st pen Sam doesnt need to make a challenge.

Our pen probably isnt one from a yard away.

Sams red isnt a pen nor a red card.

Harrys shot at the end is more a pen than the previous 2.

Hope we never see that official again.

The assessors report would make interesting reading.

Chesham 1st pen - agree that Sam didn't need to make a challenge. Not entirely clear whether it was a foul from the camera angle.

ETFC pen - really not a penalty - and the ref's angle wasn't great either.

Chesham 2nd pen - Sam's arm was arguably in an unnatural position. However, he had lifted his arm before the ball was kicked anywhere near it - as if he was trying to make sure it was out of the way. It was very much 'ball to arm' rather than the other way around. Not a penalty for me.

ETFC calls for 2nd pen - much more a penalty than either of the other 2 handballs - the Chesham player's arm is in an entirely unnatural position. Definite pen for me.

The ref appeared out of his depth and he wasn't helped by some of the rudimentary errors made by his assistants either.

Refuse to watch the highlights as it’ll only anger me more about the penalties/referee.

Great chance to take 3 points or atleast get a draw in the dying moments with Ottoway’s penalty shout getting waived off although thats the clearest penalty in the whole game.

Used to it though at this point, I hate playing victim but Enfield always have never got decisions given towards them. Fair play if they dominated us and it wouldn’t matter if the penalties were given but every point matters in our position and to get it taken away from us with such a good performance has got to hurt for Gavin and the players.

A very poor game from the ref in my opinion  , But very disillusioned to lose late on . I still predict our season can be saved Its just a matter of beating those around us.

I noticed Chestnuts have a new manager who has good  F L and N L S experience . Not sure why our board couldn't snare his services as he's been available for some time .  I guess its a question of finances at the end of the day or they got caught with their pants down.
