How long can we go on like this?

Recommended Posts

Stick with it WDIB. I too do not kindly to the acceptance of failure.

I am afraid there has always been a section within the club who are willing to go along with the status quo. This is  bound to happen within the context of being a Supporters Owned club.

You should read some of the remarks and criticisms I've had of my posts over the past years.

But as I have always believed that those who write on this forum do so because they want the best for the club so I still give my 4 pence worth.

I am sure you do as well.

We’re sharing our opinions to eachother - it’s subjective to the person. Whether or not you feel Gavin should be sacked, or we don’t have the players for it, or it’s a massive conspiracy theory, your opinion.

Obviously, no one here wants to see this club fail (I hope not except that Cheshunt fan) and if we do stay up we’ll probably feel a lot better this time next year. If not, then let’s build back up, rebuild our squad, try and scout another top striker and see where we go from there.

At the moment, we are where we are and the important thing is staying behind the players and the manager we have and leave the negativity at home when your in the ground, the players need us more then ever and Gavin most likely. On Saturday let’s get the place rocking and hopefully come away with three points.

Very interesting thread really.

In terms if receiving flak, just looking at Gavin's appearance week by week I'm sure the last thing he needs right now is fans jumping on his back when he's beating himself up enough already.

Last season will go down as being memorably for all the right reasons, we played some good stuff, won the playoff in som fashion and now we've hit a real plateau.   I'm certainly not a Gavin out fan as many on this thread seem to be.    However, I've also coached enough and seen enough football to know that the current performances/style of football/lack of goals/leaking at the back clearly need addressing.      Hopefully the new loans can bring some stability.

Our deficiencies have been well documented, and I doubt very much that piling in is helping the players either.   Not sure what the answer is....and yes I agree that our start to this season can't continue and I do wonder what is going on behind the scenes in terms of discussions and analysis as we can all agree that this season has been underwhelming to say the least.

Our next few fixtures:

Chesham 12th position   3 away wins

Salisbury 15th

Dorking 10th

Hornchurch. 20th

Interesting also we are the only team in the league without a draw....November will reveal so much.

Something has to give.    Up the Town

The problem is that I don't see us getting anything from those fixtures.

Chesham have spent some money and recruited well enough to survive this season.

In Josh Hedges, Salisbury have a talisman who is widely tipped to be playing in the football league in the not too distant future.

Dorking were favourites for the title and have been hit and miss this season but have ALOT of quality in their ranks.

Hornchurch - well, we know all about them, and on paper they should have too much for us.

I'm not sure it's accepting failure - I don't think anyone can say they're happy with how this season has been going so far (although there's still time to turn things around). As you rightly say, all people on here want what's best for the club, but that doesn't necessarily mean we have to agree on everything, including whether it's the manager's fault, the player's fault, the club/board's fault, not really anyone's fault or a bit of everything.

Regarding going along with the status quo / supporters owned model, my take on this is that the club is run by volunteers (some are elected by us, the members), others just volunteer - these people give up an enormous amount of their time (I suspect even more so with the additional requirements that come with playing at step 2), for nothing in return - no financial recompense - other than the satisfaction of knowing that they're helping the club. Although they're obviously not beyond reproach/questioning/criticism, I personally can't commit time to helping the club, so I rely on the elected board and volunteers to run the club on my behalf. I trust them to make the right decisions, or at least what they feel are the right decisions, given that they're also party to the full facts and bigger picture, which very few of us on the forum are, I suspect. If things are going badly, as they are at the moment, I don't necessarily blame them, or criticise them for lack of action, but if I do feel that the correct decisions aren't being made, I have the option of speaking with them to try to understand decisions better, or in extreme cases, voting for someone else at the board elections, or standing myself. Same goes for any other member - it's very easy to lay blame on here, and call for change, but as I've said before - it's well worth seeking out a board member to raise your points with.

Well said Barney! Just seen a nice CB signing with lots of EFL under his belt to add experience, organisation and an authoritative voice (hopefully) to our back line and to help plug our leaky defence. Things are on the up and you never know he may just have the contacts/ex team mates needed to help Gav get us an experienced midfielder and attacker without breaking the bank. COYT

Well I seemed to have provoked some really thoughtful realistic views.

Let's hope they have given thought for those who matter. However, to be fair, I have been assured that at the beginning of the season and since a number of "desirable " players have been approached. But each time we were out bid by our rivals. Money talks!!!

Perhaps it is about time thought should be given to raising funds for playing squad. Perhaps a transfer from the £35,000, of say £5,000 to start us off. Just a thought!!! If this helps with our situation a move up the table will soon repay this sum by maintained gate receipts.

Lastly I must agree with CC's remarks about Gavin as it seems to me grossly unfair that he is having to take all the flack on his shoulders.  As they say "it's gone very quiet over there!!"

Money raised through the crowd funding is surely ring fenced for the stand development. How much was raised by selling Marcus?

Wasn’t it most a sell on clause with Wyllie? I don’t think we got much funds on the actual transfer itself just when Gillingham sells him which could be months years who knows

Fellas as hard as it seems keep positive and keep pushing on, we do it at Slough every season and we constantly punch above our weight given the size of the budget we have so it is possible.

This league is relentless as you are finding out with some very big budgets out there and some quality squads that are very deep in number, we don't have that at Slough and are still here after getting promoted in 2018 so it is possible.

I think if we were somehow to survive this season then we would come into next season far more prepared. Having lost our best player shortly before the season started and with difficulty recruiting all over the pitch, it has taken us 15 games to begin to be competitive. We are now a couple of decent acquisitions away from being much more of a force. I suspect we may have left ourselves with a bit too much to do, but time will tell! At the very least I'm optimistic we'll concede less then 6 when we visit you later in the season!
