Welling Utd Tuesday

Recommended Posts

A narrow defeat is favourable to a thrashing! Yes they missed a pen and had one off the line so could have been more but we came close to equalising too. Them going down to 10 didn't help us but I'm just thinking at least only conceded one and others around us didn't win so phew

Hang on a bit and you’ll get your wish… But nothing will be done coz there are no balls on the board… only positive sign was the sighting of Brad Quinton at the game…🤞🤞🤞

Guessing it might be related that he used to manage Welling? I know he managed us for a bit but I doubt the board sacks Gavin anytime soon

The same BQ who dismantled the whole squad when he grass was greener elsewhere.

Look, we're going to be dismantling this squad pretty soon anyway! I doubt more than 1 or 2 will be joining us back in the Isthmian next season (or Southern if we're unlucky!). I'd be delighted if BQ returned now - he couldn't do any worse than Gavin, and I suspect he'd breath life into a deflated side.

Disappointing result...Disappointing defence...Disappointing number of Yr.11's who are gonna give me dog's abuse tomorrow 😢

On the up side...best burger I've EVER had at a football match 😋

Roll on Saturday then? 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Couldn’t have put it any better TCC….

Poor game played by 2 poor teams I would be surprised if either team stayed up ,we only came into the game when they went down to 10 men we seem pretty toothless up front and our final pass choice was awful at times, the goal we conceded straight from a corner was an absolute joke why the the defender ducked out the way of the ball instead of simply heading it away is a complete mystery the result was the ball going straight into the net you couldn’t make it up we got lucky with the penalty miss as there played slipped whilst taking it  and the ball hit the bar. Disappointing result but hardly surprising maybe we can turn things around this Saturday but somehow I doubt it

The long and the short of it is that the Board can't let us go through a season losing 30 league games and do nothing! Surely?! Gavin will be a completely and utterly broken man by then - he'd be completely out of credibility with both fans and players. The likes of Aveley and Welling simply aren't as good as we are making them appear. The Welling forward line is essentially the Wingate strike force from last season. Something has to give.

I always try and be positive and constructive in my comments .. but find it very hard after last night ..

this was far worse than Aveley ...

We didn't create a single chance of note - yes we may have had a couple of shots on target but they would certainly have been labelled as keeper error had they gone in.

I've said before why do we not have players defending on the posts at corners? Last night shows why! We have all 11 in the box (so if we clear the opposition get it straight back) yet don't cover the posts - why not keep 2 up and make the opposition keep 3 back?

First half was little of note whatsoever, an off target header is all I believe, and the penalty was not contested by our players - the taker slips and we stay in the game - was luck going to change for us?

What was most disappointing for me was we played 30 mins against a struggling side down to 10 but were not able to really push them. Yes we passed the ball around more - but that was more due to Welling sitting back to protect their lead - we did not have the ability? drive and passion? to make a difference.

The players seem to lack confidence - only Lennon was prepared to take players on... and RBR put in 100% effort when he came on. MOM would have to be either Rhys in goal or Mills in my view.

Aveley and Welling are not better players than us if you line them up player for player - but overall they are bigger, stronger, fitter, play to a system, and prepared to do the dark arts - the keeper last night wasted so much time - got booked eventually but it slowed down the game - the first 2 Aveley goals on Saturday were started by a throw where their player pushed up an extra 20 yards from where he should have taken it - are we too nice?? Going back 2-3 years ago we were often labelled a dirty side with - we need some of this back. Would Adam Cunnington come out of retirement for us??

It became quite misty last night - and was suggested that maybe it was hard to make out our purple kit when passing?

So after 3 ok performances last night was not acceptable in my view.

On the plus side - we only conceded one, the defence made some last ditch challenges.

My "plan to 48 points" said we should get 1 point last night, so not the end of the world - and there are still 3 teams below us - although they are getting games in hand and starting to grind out draws.

There are still 4 teams within 5 points of us - but we must start picking up points again .. need something from Chesham.

Whatever the issues - recruitment. budget, or a combination of both - we need to make changes still - I thought Hutchinson has not looked fit/confident up front in the last 2 - so would either start RBR next game or play Harry on his own to start with Lennon & Billy supporting.

Hats off to the Welling team who have already got the highlights up - Under 5 mins says it all, including 23 seconds of the teams coming out!

Listening to Gavin’s post match conference, the first thing he brings up and is worried about is conceding from a corner. Obviously watching the goal back - it’s poor and we should do better with it but there’s definitely more alarming things at the moment then conceding a corner? The fact we can’t create anything against better sides for large parts of the game and we’re shipping 4 goals a game nearly every chance we get to me is more worrying then conceding to a corner when we had  nearly 40 minutes to create anything having an extra man on the pitch

I'm thinking he was more concerned with the manner it was conceded. Player at near post moves towards ball but looks like he ducks instead of heading it although footage was a bit far away and foggy. We should have been able to get a goal to at least draw against 10 men but like he says individual players are making bad decisions. It is a small comfort that it was only one so look forward to Chesham on Saturday...although they will be tougher opposition. Crowd need to lift the boys Saturday COYT

And in return the team need to give the fans something to lift them like a win.
