Milton Keynes Irish 3 Wormley Rovers 0

A groundhopper from another forum was at this comfortable win for Milton Keynes Irish yesterday:

Milton Keynes Irish 3-0 Wormley Rovers, Spartan South Midlands
Manor Fields. Adm £5 (conc), programmes available, Att 138
Late decision to visit here. MKI clearly have their sites on higher levels judging by the work going on at the ground, presumably in the hope of staging Step 4 next season. Prior to this had won 8 and drawn 1, also without conceding at home in the League.
From the entrance/Clubhouse end there is a long stand on the left (most of the length of the pitch) but with just 3 rows. One area set aside presumably for wheelchairs. It is low however and a little way back from the pitch so not the best views. Opposite is a small 3 row stand just to one side of the centre line but which starts a little bit higher. Next to that there are 3 large (very wide) steps recently tarmacked. On the other side of that stand work for what appears to be the same is underway. Behind the far goal (not accessible) work is underway for what could be a large terrace with the groundworks well developed. Obviously other work is required as well (turnstiles for example) but that would not prove too problematic.
As for the game – MKI took an early lead with a penalty and a good finish put them 2 up on 11 minutes. At that point it looked like could be a large victory. WR however really came into the game after the second goal and dominated the remainder of the half. 1 disallowed for offside and 2 excellent saves by the goalkeeper kept them out and gave Irish a slightly flattering half time lead.
WR after the break again had most of the play but never troubled the goalkeeper. 20 mins in a good bit of interplay by MKI led to a simple tap in for the 3rd and the game was over. It petered out really after that.
Left on the final whistle to the sound of the Irish Rover on the loudspeaker system.

Division Two
Totternhoe 2 Eynesbury United 2

Eynesbury United's match report from Dunstable Road:

Spartan South Midlands Division 2 Totternhoe (0) 2 Eynesbury (1) 2 (Baxter 2)
The curse of United conceding very late goals continued yesterday when in the 93rd minute Totternhoe lashed home an equaliser after the Bulls failed to clear a ball into the box.
It was a proper game of football with heavy tackles and controversy galore as both sides went hammer and tongs at each other.
United will come away, as they did at Aston Clinton and Sarratt, thinking that this was two points dropped, and probably the unluckiest man on the pitch was Callan Irvine who had the misfortune to have a penalty saved and then got dismissed for trying to tackle whilst on the floor and mistimed it. The Referee who shall we say wasn’t at his best all afternoon and was in the centre circle, 30 yards away gave a straight red? Though the reaction of the home bench probably swayed his decision as it did most of the afternoon.
United started the game well and in particular Ryan Baxter who was giving the Totternhoe centre half plenty of issues. Baxter had already gone close with a shot from the angle, however a ball over the top saw him out muscle Totternhoe centre half Smith and he put the ball past Palmer. One up and a great start. And minutes later it should have been two. Again Baxter was in the thick of it and he played a great ball to Iwen Jones who raced clear, he got his shot away but a very late tackle saw the Referee award a penalty. Up stepped Irvine but his effort was scuffed and Palmer saved. United continued to push and the hosts came into the game. Totternhoe had plenty of corners but poor delivery allowed United to clear. Baxter once again got past Smith, but this time Palmer was equal to his effort. The Bulls led at half time and knew the second half was going to be a tough affair and so it proved.
The first real thing of note was the sending off of Stonnell. The Referee had sinned binned him for something he had said and then he said something else (not printable) and the Referee sent him off.
This then changed the atmosphere of the game as the Totternhoe players and bench tried to get the referee to even up his earlier decision.
On 48 minutes 10 men Totternhoe then played a high ball towards the United box, a Totternhoe player had a shot that deflected off a United body and hit another Bulls players hand. The Referee gave a free kick outside the area (the Totternhoe supporters in line with the play confirmed it was just outside). The Referee was then surrounded by Totternhoe players and then inexplicably went over to talk to his linesman, he then changed his decision and gave a penalty which they they scored. 1-1
The next moment of debate was a Baxter tackle, Ryan was battling with two players when a third came sliding in. Baxter played the ball but caught the player on the follow through. The Referee waived play on, the Refs assistant didn’t flag - but the Totternhoe bench all jumped up screaming for the Ref to do something.
The Ref then stopped the game and consulted his linesman, then gave Baxter a yellow card. The Ref stated that he never saw it but he could tell by the reaction of the Totternhoe players/bench etc that it was a poor challenge?
The game then became a scrappy affair with every Bulls challenge deemed a red card offence. However out of the mayhem the Bulls produced a great team goal. Meeds won the ball and shifted it to Arnold who knocked it on to Irvine. Irvine played a one two with Samal and then Baxter - Irvine drove onto the left hand side, delivered a great ball into the box, that found Baxter who beat Palmer from close range. The Bulls were in front, and maybe on the balance of play justified.
United should have just game managed the last 8 minutes, but then the Callan Irvine red card happened and it was all hands to the pump. The Bulls then conceded that late goal and had to settle for a point, which on another day they would have taken.
The Bulls are 5th and one defeat in nine is a good start. No game next week, but we entertain Totternhoe at home in the League Cup on Tuesday October 22nd, should be another cracker. MoM Ryan Baxter - immense all afternoon.
