v Tonbridge Angels

Recommended Posts

Another top of the table clash against a Tonbridge side that have made a flying start to the season and sit 3rd in the table.

They are one of only two sides in the NLS that remain unbeaten after 9 league games.

They battered us at home 2-5 last season so needless to say we'll have to be at our best to get a result.

Yes They're off to a good start especially at home  Away 1 win and 3 score draws Expecting a close game which our home advantage may give us the edge to pick up the points.

Yes, I remember that game last season, I, (and the other STRADS members) sponsored it. Went home well pissed off.

An excellent result against a previously unbeaten side I said before the game I thought our home ground would be key we may have lost one game after many months unbeaten but it's still Fortress Arbour and we can go many more months unbeaten imo.

Really impressed with the side today and a really good win..thought Amartey was superb when he was on

Agree with that Mark, still reserving judgement on Francis but his performance today, along with the rest of the team was very, very good.

No doubt on the MoM but though Gilbert and Beeden both had great games. All in all an excellent performance against a very gritting Tonbridge side. I thought we stood up against them physically extremely well (as we should with the players we have) and just had more quality across the pitch.

Special mention for Sam Evans, was excellent and really pleased to see him get his first league goal for the club. Real big talent there and with Spasov, Amarty and Lucan we have an embarrassment of riches up top and if you add Ogbonna and Abisogun as high wide players, there aren't too many in the league that will be able to live with the pace and attacking play we have this season.

Thought the ref was rubbish for both sides throughout the entire game. Unfortunately the standards this season of officials have been (amazingly) lower than last season. He was terrible.

Tonbridge kind of started the last unbeaten run at home so wouldn't it be nice for them to be the first scalp in the new unbeaten run.

What an excellent day for the club! Great win against a previously unbeaten 3rd placed team climbing us to 4th place. Impressive attendance (more than I expected), raising our league home average to 979. The opening of our cool new bar which I’m sure everyone agrees looks fab and a very welcome addition.

Matt Lench who?

Another positive from yesterday was seeing Josh come on, clearly the injury wasn't as bad as first thought. Question for Scott though - why with Prosper playing well on the left and Josh being a natural right sided player did we have them switch when Josh came on? Clearly didn't matter, but just curious on the decision thought.

Sean Shields for me is their biggest attacking threat, their No.23. Pretty much everyone’s game plan against Tonbridge would be to keep him quiet.

For anyone that’s played football will know that sometimes coming on as sub, it can take a while to get up to the speed of the game. Hence why I wanted Shields to be kept quiet which I believe he was, and Jammers was already up to the pace of the game so that’s why I chose to swap him over and deal with that.

Also, Jams is the type of person that if you tell him ‘I want you to dominate him in all aspects, on the floor, in the air, across the ground’ etc, he loves the personal battle. They didn’t really offer much down their right hand side.

Interesting to hear those types of thoughts Scott, thank you for that👍

Superb attendance and an excellent win against an organised and previously unbeaten Tonbridge side.

Good performances all round but no doubt that Bayliss took the honors with his all round performance and goals.

With the big attendance, 3 points and opening of the new bar, it was an excellent day for the club.

A professional, dominant performance against a previously unbeaten side. A deserved win, though maybe 3-1 flattered us slightly. We kept Tonbridge quiet for most of the match, the free-kick being their only real chance of note that I can recall. Stand-out performances, for me, were Dan Bayliss for the 2 goals, and David Ogbonna for looking lively all game.

A far better outcome than the last time we hosted Tonbridge!
