Ham&Richmond v. Enfield Town

Recommended Posts

Giving away a pen in first few minutes somewhat set the tone of the game; uphill struggle from the start! Hampton had all the possession and we struggled to string a run of passes together for the majority of the match...we just always seemed to be a stride behind and threatened very little. Need to turn things around sharpish but keeping the faith

Sorry, are you talking about us or your lot?

I  know what our problem is ,The problem is the chairman and his father appear to keep the faith .   I can't believe they'll keep it much longer or we'll be playing Wabbey next season .  Now that is a depressing thought 🤔

But I'm still confident you'll be getting your cup finals against us and Potters.😊

I've said it before, I'm saying it again...

Why do you give Albury the oxygen of our forum?

Don't rise to it...ignore the twat!

Just a bit of neighbourly rivalry nothing more. Maybe your sense of entitlement and up-who-ness  thinks you are above talking to other fans in jest and  banter .   Get over yourself. 😠

Pretty hard going today. I thought we had a chance to get something out of it,  with the promise of what was on the bench.

Fair play to Gavin for being loyal to the team that did well last week but the key to yesterday was when he made the switches and who he took off. Even at 0-2 I thought we might have a slim chance of a point. RBR was struggling with pace so could have gone off sooner but I was as surprised as Sam and Bernie that they got hooked. Neither had a bad game and moving Mills to the middle of defence when we know he's got pace as a winger was odd. It was a gamble but it left too many holes at the back. I guess the only other options would to remove one of the faster midfielders. Anyway it back fired.

On a positive note the three that came on looked good. Tuck looks like a great loanee; fast, smart and always looked to deliver a decent pass, and Hutchinson and Ottaway could prove to be a good partnership.

There's still hope.

Pretty sure there are plenty on here that appreciate banter, so why don't you set up a banter thread instead of winding everyone up here when people want to talk about the game?

Personally, I don't mind Alb's little posts at the moment. It only serves to remind me how badly Chesiricay are doing at the moment - which cheers me up just a little.

Anyway, back to the game. Wasn't there, so can only rely upon reports/commentary. Given Symptomless's observations, it was telling that the commentary team noted the lack of space H&R found in the first half compared to the 2nd half after the changes were made. Granted, he did a great job in the play-offs, but Gavin's tactical nous does appear to be lacking on occasion. Interesting (or not!) that Gavin's post-match interview is pretty similar to those we've seen before -'we had a plan but the players switched off. I brought the players in, so the buck stops with me.' - All well and good, but he seems to be stuck on repeat.

I think the time is now though for Gav to pick his starting 11 and stick with them, win, lose or draw. I feel we need to get the new players firing and all the players learning what the others want, where they'll be, pressing together, cover defending together and showing some oooomph and desire to move and break as a team. There needs to be risk taking as Gav puts it and start with two up front...it's not a risk for other teams it's standard. We need to be scoring. It might mean we concede but we are doing that anyway. It's time to take it to the opposition, if we fail we fail but we will have tried. Defending for 90 plus minutes will invariably lead to conceding. I would rather lose 5-3 and have had a few goals ourselves and created lots of chances than lose 1-0, never look like scoring and just waiting to lose. Come on Town!

Totally agree NbT.

Not sure we've really had a go yet this year and as Gavin's suggested.....1 - 0's don't seem that likely as we concede too early as it is.   We may as well go all in and really go for it, I'd like us higher up the pitch, yes some speed merchants against us may benefit however the side needs to settle down, we need to start taking the game to our opponents and we've got to just give it more of a go.   Even if it means playing with one defensive midfielder protecting the back 4 and really giving the opposition much more to think about.

I'm another that wasn't at the game, but I do appreciate the feedback of those that were, and it's nice to see that people are being constructive in the most part about what we might do differently to turn things around - as I've said many times, this league is a huge step up, and unless all 11 players are bang on it (i.e. vs Bath), we're not going to get anything out of games. Positive as well that the new signings sound like they can add something to the team, I don't blame Gav for sticking with the 11 that did so well the previous weekend, but I'd expect changes in the next game, and hopefully us creating more chances.

I fully agree with the sentiments of the last two posts.

My only comment I would make is regarding recruitment. I understand the reason for adding players with experience of Step 2.

However. I still feel that there are young players in step 3 and below who, given the chance could bring a fresh dynamic to our game and more receptive to fitting in Gavin's way of play.

This may not be as stupid as it sounds. Think of Marcus and what he did for us!!!!! Some one must have scouted him. Why not again????..

In the meantime any result this Saturday, other than another loss, will be gratefully appreciated.

NO PRESSURE THERE THEN!!!!!

There will never be an issue with 'neighbourly rivalry', it's the truly awful banter and desperation to wind people up who are here to discuss our beloved football club, which is the issue.

Ha.  Guess may be busier on here again after this result.

You think this is busy: Weymouth's forum currently has FIVE pages of navel-gazing following our win over them!
