wow there's a unbelievably low number of teams in the Anagrams this year i'm shocked.

Delaney - It's funny you should say that, it was a big talking point on another Forum (see below), I think the competition is going to the dogs especially with no SSML representation as we were always good for four or five Club's entering prior to last season:

Whoa! This is a huge drop in numbers - not far short of half! Any reason for this, please? Thanks.

It would appear that all the First Round ties are taking place either on Saturday 9 November or Saturday 16 November:

May be an image of text that says "The Anagram Records Trophy Draw First Round Saturday 9th November Match 1 Cuffley VS Runwell Sports Match 2 Hertford Heath VS Catholic United Match 3 Sungate VS Kodak (Harrow) Match 4- Chipperfield Corinthians VS Toby Match 5 Shenfield Association VS Jolof Sports Match 6 WEST LONDON ATHLETIC VS HAYES & HILLINGDON Match 7 Wotton Blues Cross VS AFC Oakley Match 8 -Larkspur Rovers VS Everett Rovers"

Welcome back to the fold Savagebee, I've sent out numerous search parties for you, all to no avail. Do you get to many games these days, I agree West London Athletic v Hayes & Hillingdon, on Saturday 9 November, will be an interesting tie between two Middlesex County League Club's, it's at the University of Westminster Sports Ground in Chiswick isn't it. Larkspur Rovers v Everett Rovers is the same afternoon with Sungate v Kodak (Harrow) the following Saturday and Shenfield Association v Jolof Sports on Saturday 23 November.

Thanks Rhodes 😀

Yeah I still get to games but only on Saturday's and the odd Sunday League game 😁. Only Step 7 and below footy for me these days 😎

It's a nice set up at The University Of Westminster ground in Chiswick the pitches have just been relayed during the Summer and a 3g pitch is in the pipeline.

Hope you are well Rhodes.

Do any of the old gang still use this forum ?

Savagebee - I can see the competition sadly dying a death and not continuing next season which would be a pity, I wonder what Delaney will do then. I gather that it is still organised and administered by Football Man, 'formerly of this Parish' to coin an Agamemnon3 phrase, so it's coincidence that you ask about 'the old gang'. On this old 'Anagram Records Trophy' thread from 2010/11 there were 10 pages and 21 different posters so I wonder what happened to 99% of them as only two currently post, even PetetheGreek has disappeared:

No I didn't go to this game in the end to much traffic that way today with England rugby and Brentford at home.

Savagebee - I have it on good authority that it was a good game, it's a shame you couldn't get there. There are four interesting looking First Round ties taking place tomorrow, I hope the competition will survive and SSML Club's will enter again, or be allowed to enter again, it's not the same without them:

Anagram Records Trophy First Round

Was anybody in attendance at this tie, see a brief match report. It appears that the Second Round draw has been made with Chipperfield Corinthians travelling to Hayes & Hillingdon:

Chipperfield 3-2 Toby FC
Yet another win for the First Team, their 14th in a row, as they progress to their third cup Quarter Final of the season. Virtually all the action came in the first half with Chipperfield taking the lead on 5 minutes through a calm volley at the back post from Dan Griggs. Toby equalised minutes after, before taking the lead on 35 minutes. Chipperfield then scored twice with a Louie brace before Toby went down to 10 men after one of their players kicked out. In the second half there was little action as the game ran out with Chipperfield winning setting up their tie in the next round which is away at Hayes & Hillingdon FC.

I am assuming that the final First Round tie taking place this afternoon is still going ahead, kick off 2.30pm.

Jolof have knocked out the holders! and I wouldn't say it's a surprising result, as Jolof are unbeaten this season in their respective League with their only loss of the season coming to Step 6 side NW London in the London Senior Trophy.

Delaney - Thanks, a groundhopper from another Forum was in attendance, also see a link to the on-line match programme:

Anagram Records Trophy 1st Round
Shenfield Association 2-2 Jolof Sports, Jolof Sports win 5-4 on penalties

A slightly later than usual setting off allowed a bit of time to think which would be the best direction to head on, and a 3G in Essex seemed a safe bet. Walked to the ground from Harold Wood station, but had I known the game was going to kick off 35 minutes late (oddly enough the last really late kick off I'd seen , two seasons ago, also involved Jolof), I'd have left the train a couple of stops earlier. Presumably not due to the delays in Brentwood due to the High Street being closed for their light up. I could have done without someone on stage singing Christmas songs to a group of largely indifferent passers-by. Shenfield play at St Martin's School. It's a 3G cage with standing down one side. The dugouts are oddly situated behind the spectator barrier, resulting on one being barely used, offering a bit of cover to some of the crowd at times. There is a slope outside the cage which has what at many venues could be considered a smoking shelter which offered some cover for someone. Unusually the two changing rooms were both some distance from the pitch in separate buildings in different directions. The home one looks as though it might be a small building just used by the Club. There is a catering outlet on site, but not open for this. Plenty of parking, the staff carpark was right next to the pitch.
Thankfully despite the delays, and a longish half time as both teams went back to the changing rooms (the Officials opted for the back of a van) it was a good game. Shenfield started the brighter and opened the scoring midway through the first half. The visitors thought it was offside, but managed to channel any frustrations to turn it round within ten minutes scoring twice. They looked the better side for a while, but Shenfield came back into it in the second half, equalising midway through via an own goal. They looked the more likely to go on and win, but despite a few close efforts failed to do so. The penalty shoot out saw nine good penalties, the exception was the third for Shenfield which cleared the cage and ended high up in a tree. It was the Jolof keeper who stepped up to score the winner.
Played in good spirits on and off the pitch. A bit of drizzle throughout the day, but rarely heavier, and even then not too bad. Windy, without dominating play. I headed to nearby Shenfield station to catch the train back. A quick change at Paddington and then onto the bus at Reading. Which aside from that losing all power going up a hill meant a smooth trip home.
