Town v Maidstone

Recommended Posts

Sometimes its reassuring to look on the next oppo's fans forum. Maidstone comments include:

"Enfield on Saturday is arguably a must win even this early in the season. They're below us and the type of team we should be pumping by a few goals. We don't get three points against them the panic really will start to kick in with October looking like a very tricky line of fixtures..."

"Hey - at least we can watch us lose from that cool turreted bar that Enfield have on Saturday!"

2-1  to Enfield is my prediction .. after 3 solid performances where we have deserved something ...

need lots of vocal support there tomorrow ...

(Bookies heavily favouring Maidstone - can get 4/1 on an Enfield win and 4/6 on Maidstone!)

I don't blame the posts for dying at this point. We clawed it back to 1-2 (Peake) having thrown Harry Ottaway on up top, before a couple of defensive lapses saw us crumble 1-4 - with the loanee picking up a red for a second bookable offence. Make no mistake: Maidstone are no world-beaters this season. They were bullied at home by a struggling Chelmsford on Tuesday (1-5). Unfortunately we once again showed ABSOLUTELY NO COURAGE. Playing the first 55mins with a single striker was tactically hopeless. We're at home against a side lacking in confidence and we decide to try to shut up shop! By the time Gavin decided to put a second striker (Ottaway replacing an 'off the pace' Scott Thomas,) the damage had been done and we were playing catch-up. We are not defensively good enough to play that way at Step 2. The midfield (ok, mainly Thomas) are chasing shadows and needs strengthening. It is ever so disappointing that Gavin won't try to play on the front foot at home - particularly when the current tactics have failed miserably so far this season. You make your own luck, and at the moment we're not giving ourselves a chance.

Positives: Lennon Peake looked a threat. Carl Mensah gave us a decent aerial presence for the first time this season. Mills worked hard - ok, a little too hard. And it was great to see Harry back in a Town shirt.

"off the pace Scott Thomas"???

Bloody hopeless you mean!

Ottaway's return was the highlight of the game...at least he posed a threat...welcome back Harry 👍🏻
