Slough v Weymouth

Recommended Posts

it is important tomorrow to remember not to be charitable to our opponents who are at this time at the foot of the table, we have a history of doing this i think that it was at Weymouth we lost to them when they had lost many of their previous games we have got to get our heads straight there are no easy games at this level.

Double pressure on us tomorrow, being top and aiming to go a whole year undefeated at home. I can see it being a tense match and maybe a little cautious from both sides. Obviously Weymouth are desperate for any points so may be defensive and look to counter, meaning we’ll need to be patient in attempting to break them down. Tomorrow may not be pretty football but working very hard and getting the win by whatever means. Hoping our pace and attacking prowess overwhelms Weymouth tomorrow and our defence stays solid and hopefully another clean sheet.

It will be interesting to see what Weymouth’s tactics are as on the one hand it looks like a bit of a free hit for Weymouth, being bottom away to top.

On the other hand, Weymouth have not only lost their opening five matches but haven’t scored in their last four & have conceded three goals in both their away matches….. as a manager would you feel confident about soaking up pressure and scoring on the counter with those stats?

If that is their plan though it would likely rely on the returning Francis Amartey up front for them.

How are the nerves, everyone? Big day!

I regret doing some match prep after discovering that the Rebels have failed to beat Weymouth in their last 7 attempts. (that's not including a friendly defeat in the 2020 pre-season.)

Goals from Wells, Dobson & Jackman saw us win 3-0 at Arbour Park in our promotion season during 2017.

Firstly excellent achievement in going a whole year without defeat at home, an absolute massive statement. Secondly a big big win today keeping us top against a poor side but one that made it hard for us today. I was thinking it could be one of those days where it just wouldn’t go in for us but we found a way and saw the game out. Considering we have a small squad plus a few important players currently out it shows just how well we’re doing, long may it continue 👏

Four consecutive league match wins is also a fantastic achievement in what is a very competitive league….. I think the last time we managed this was in Sept/Oct 2019 when we won five consecutive league matches & went on to make the play-offs in a disrupted season.

Wow.
We have just gone a whole year without losing a match at home.
That is a fantastic achievement.
As Scott said in his interview, it's not as though we have been a Yeovil or Ebbsfleet who have dominated a league campaign.
We haven't even been a team who have been up there in the play-off places for the past 12 months.
Most of the time we have been in the bottom half of the table.
Our run basically started last year when we were in the almost exact same position that Weymouth find themselves now.
Rock bottom of the league and fearing the worst.
We were awful that day a year ago against Tonbridge.
It's hard to believe that that was our last home defeat..
Massive credit and praise has to go to all the management and players for such an incredible turnaround.
I do think at home we now have a massive target on our back.
I know that if we were going to play away at a club who were on a fantastic unbeaten home run, we would love to be the club to bring that run to an end.

I'd be surprised if other clubs didn't think that way too.

Even if we lose our next home game, this unbeaten run will be entered into the club's record books.
For any team at any level to go a whole year without suffering a defeat at home is worthy of praise, but even more so when we know how difficult and strong this division is.
We don't win a trophy for remaining unbeaten at home for such a long time, but nonetheless it is  a pretty awesome achievement that will take some doing for another National League South club to get even close to matching it.
