v Salisbury (a)

Recommended Posts

Gutted I have to miss this one as played at Salisbury's place years ago a couple of times so would have been good to go back.

Hopefully we can take some confidence on our travels.

I saw Salisbury had their goalkeeper sent off in their opening game at Hemel, so a good chance to test their second string stopper

Sent off for bring down Trae Cook-Appiah, no less

Salisbury new signing Craig Fasanmade, the player who ran us ragged down the wing when we played away at Chippenham, scored their 2 goals in the 2-2 draw at Hemel.

A player I would love to have signed and who mysteriously appeared on our team sheet in the away game at Welling last season.

Why is this a mystery? Clearly just an error by whoever typed up Welling’s team sheets, no?

In hindsight of course it was an administrative error but seeing his name on our team sheet just before ko was a bit baffling and probably a bit of wishfull thinking having played against us for Chippenham in a previous game.

Listening on the radio, I felt we were extremely unlucky to be a player short - if Beeden concedes the penalty, he shouldn't then be sent off as well - are these not the rules?

DOGSO
The referee's decision depends on whether the defender tried to play the ball:

Defender tried to play the ball: The referee awards a yellow card and a penalty kick.

Defender did not try to play the ball: The referee awards a red card and a penalty kick.

still think that we did better than salisbury today not only did we play most of the match one player down and at one point two players down but we had a perfectly good goal disallowed from a dubious offside decision and they could only win by a goal from a penalty from this performance i would be surprised to see salisbury in the top ten at the end of the season

It's not the clearest image, but that's the best shot of the offside decision from yesterday. It looks a lot closer than I thought it had seeing it live. It is close though.

For anyone looking for match highlights they can be found here:

Salisbury do look like a possession based team who like the space to bring the ball out unchallenged and perhaps in hindsight we were too passive relying on the counter attack.

On the disallowed goal it's Impossible to see for definite from the pics and video but it does look marginally offside.

On the penalty and sending off, firstly the ball should have been dealt with in the air and Lexus seems to have mis judged the flight of the ball.

Freezing the challenge it looks marginally outside the area but in real time and with the lino not exactly in line I can see why it was given.

Slavi said to the lino that he was behind the ball when crossed but doesn't look like it to me.

With teams like Salisbury imo you've got to pressure them and don't give them time on the ball playing something like a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 formation.

A bit like we did to Ebbsfleet in the FA cup replay at AP.

Easier said than done and all in hindsight of course 😏
