First visit to Sergeants Lawn for me to see two teams who haven’t exactly set the League alight in their first three matches. Rothwell had three points whilst Huntingdon had lost all three played so far.
The opening five minutes were all Rothwell as they peppered the visiting keeper with efforts and it looked like only a matter of time before they scored. I counted four good chances missed in the first two minutes and it was relentless with wave after wave of attack from the hosts, with Alfie Frame particularly looking as though he was desperate to get on the scoresheet, as he tried efforts on goal from various angles. The match carried on in the same vein and the first half ended with Rothwell hitting the woodwork twice in the closing stages.
The second half started with Huntingdon looking more organised and they started having the odd attack, but it was still a big surprise just after the hour when they scored what proved to be the winner. Ian King received the ball on the halfway line and moved forward before seeing Marley Falcon-Manser to his right and in space and he lashed the ball past the advancing keeper into the left corner. It was pretty noticeable that Rothwell’s players seemed to be getting frustrated with each other, as it really was undeserved that Huntingdon had taken the lead. Despite pressing for the equaliser and six minutes stoppage time being added on, the visitors held out and came away from Northamptonshire with all the three points.

First things first - the bloke at Saturday's Stony game wearing a Falkland Islands shirt was also in attendance at this one, sporting an amber and black effort of Paro FC, apparently from Bhutan.
The match, an MK derby, was the opening fixture of the season for Old Bradwell, who over the last few years have emerged as one of the strongest teams in the division. Promotion is however not feasible, on account of their ground grading: there's no chance they're going to get permission for floodlights and the clubhouse/changing rooms are far too far from the pitch. So they remain one of the big hitters in SSML2 and demonstrated that point pretty comfortably here.
Stony missed a great chance midway through the first half which, if taken, could have pushed the game in a different direction, but two clinical pieces of finishing for OB and a straight red card for a Stony player pretty much decided things by half time. Stony put on a decent showing with 10 players but never really laid a glove on the home side, who wrapped it up with a third in the last few minutes.
