With the TV’s , we were showing the olympics and then the community shield so not sure where you were looking.

On the scoreboard, there is an issue but due to the change of lease ownership we are having difficulties in getting it resolved.

Our tannoy announcer is 85 years old, if you think you can do better then come and have a go. More than happy to run through how it works with anyone stepping forward to take over.

Thanks Ade - he's my Dad. He's actually 87 now and this is not the only volunteer role he does for the rebels, nor are the rebels the only organisation he volunteers for. He believes in a much more even-handed approach than some might like, coming from sporting days with much more corinthian values, so he's never going to be the jingoistic announcer some might like. He's been supporting the rebels in all sorts of ways now since the late 60s so I think he's earned a bit of respect.

Still the old boy, I honestly don't know his name which I feel is wrong of me after all this time.

Why not talk to him, Donny, he loves meeting new people - the mic is at the top of the stand.

859 a decent attendance for this time of year?

81 more than last seasons opener.

Yes it was as generally 1st league games are low due to loads on holiday. Plus if you look across non league especially the majority of clubs had much lower than average.

Absolutely, I've said hello many times, completely my fault I don't know his name.

Did I hear correctly at some point he did the athletics announcements at Crystal Palace back in the day?

A great man! Does so well to be doing the announcements at 87, quite incredible really.

Does so much for the club that goes under the radar too. Definitely worth speaking to for sure. I’ve heard some great stories from Tony during my time at the club!

He's done announcements all over the place in the athletics world....he has done all the roles you can think of in the world of athletics, athlete, coach, official, referee...only sometime announcer. As a mark of the man, he was qualified as an official for top level events, eg London 2012, but has always preferred and chosen grassroots athletics, helping youngsters come through. One of those youngsters just won an Olympic Bronze by the way, but he won't tell you that.

Brilliant stuff.

Its possible our paths would have crossed many, many moons ago as I used to run as a kid/teenager up until about 18 or so when I chose football/ice hockey.

I was lucky enough to win a couple of 400m races at Crystal Palace back in the day one of which was in front of about 10,000 people at the London Grand Prix in between the main races on the track.

Great times!
