v Chelmsford City

Recommended Posts

Was a little worried after going one nil down today, felt we didn't really do anything until we conceded, but then when we scored it completely changed our game,  we were attacking ,dominant and looked a really good team. Lexus was a monster in defence, Horlock had a good game, Slavi was really good in front of goal,  Gilbert , Ufuah, Abisogun really good games. Really was a game of two halves, hopefully the team will take confidence from this result, keep chomping at the bit , great to extend our unbeaten home run. Thought the substitutions were spot on. Question marks over two players for me but the jury will be out for a few more weeks. Great result 👏  well done to all the staff and players, fantastic to start the season with 3 pts

I couldn't be there due to work,  but have we got a new match day stadium announcer yet?

Lots of positives for me. Horlock made two crucial saves. Lexus is clearly a proper defender but looks like he could be a threat coming forward too. Some promising flashes from Gilbert and his corner for the winner was begging to be headed home and Slavi duly obliged. Ufuah made a real impact from the bench and with Abisogun and Ogbonna we are blessed with threatening pacy wingers. Good start. COYR

No same guy, why do you ask?

Because at the end of last season I heard a rumour about him being replaced with someone, er, more capable.

Same here. It’s tricky one… obviously it’s not a job that has a queue of people knocking down the door for. So we have to be grateful to the current person doing it but yes for me he’s not the right voice.

Which squad number was Jack Timberlake ?

He wasn’t given a squad number. I guess he was included as we had a few missing.

Doesn't help when the scoreboard is out of action.

Apparently some technical problems that maybe should have been tested and sorted during the summer break.

It is very frustrating the amount of times the  scoreboard is either not working or breaks down during a match. It seems it whatever the issue is can’t be fixed long term, maybe it needs dumping or forming out for a new decent one (although it probably isn’t worth it).

Not a great start to the day with Josh Jackman missing from the advertised match day squad.

Not sure if it was just coincidental but there was also no captains write up in the match day program.

Onto the game, it has to be said it was a really poor first half from us and if we'd been 3 down at half time it would have been a true reflection of the half.

We started coming into the game late in the first half so hopefully it was a sign of better things to come.

The second half was totally different.

Starting on the front foot, we cut out the errors from our game and started creating chances.

Our substitutions were spot on and really changed the game.

Once our first goal went in courtesy of some great wide play from John Ufuah a winning goal looked on the cards which came courtesy of a well taken corner and an excellent header from Slavi.

A slow start was probably inevitable given the number of new players but our second half performance can only be a positive sign for things to come.

In the end a great 3 points.

I spoke to the lad who works the scoreboard and he said it was out of action due to no wi-fi and some technical problems.

I was surprised when I got into the ground to see the scoreboard working, or seemingly working but then a bit later it remained permanently off.

Whilst we're on the subject of things not working 😏 It was great news to hear about the tv deal we have including the media wall that will eventually be put in place.

Currently we have 2 tvs in the clubhouse that were both off yesterday.

Ok there wasn't any premiership football on but there must of been other football matches/sports programs on like the Olympics.

My point being it's supposed to be a football clubhouse and having sports programs on the tv screens adds to the atmosphere and something that a lot of supporters like to watch or keep an eye on.

Did he have a number on his shirt?

I thought and would presume every player would need a number if playing?

I suspect he was listed on the team sheet with a number but due to the shirts being so new, perhaps we didn't have it ready. For the most part, the blood shirts don't have numbers either. I guess as long as the ref knows, it's all good.

With the TV’s , we were showing the olympics and then the community shield so not sure where you were looking.

On the scoreboard, there is an issue but due to the change of lease ownership we are having difficulties in getting it resolved.

Our tannoy announcer is 85 years old, if you think you can do better then come and have a go. More than happy to run through how it works with anyone stepping forward to take over.

The 2 tvs that are up high were not on before the game started.

Come to think of it I think there's now a tv in the far corner which may of been on but not everyone would have been able to watch it.

Rubbish first half, excellent 2nd half, talk about a game of 2 halves! I guess with a few new players in the starting 11 it was not unusual it took a while to get into any rhythm. Luckily we kept the goals conceded to just the one as it could have been 2 or 3. My MotM was Lexus, he was a rock and hardly put a foot or head wrong. Also special praise for Slavi for his 2 goals including an excellent winner plus Ufuah who I thought caused no end of problems in his brief stint. All in all great to start with a win and extend our amazing home record.

Agree Glen, I've been singing his praises preseason and everything about him on Saturday confirmed that for me although there will be tougher tests, he's a great addition for us.

Nothing against Slavi but my MOM was Lexus.

Still the old boy, I honestly don't know his name which I feel is wrong of me after all this time.

It was working preseason at times.

I did say to my other half, I noticed on a couple of the midweek games, all the internal stand lights weren't on so I'm wondering if they are on the same circuit or switchboard system.
