5 subs?

Recommended Posts

Listening to the Chesham post match interview I'm sure they mentioned something about using 5 subs next season.

I know step 1 can have 7 subs with 5 able to be used.

Can someone clarify if step 2 can use up to 5 subs or is it still the normal 5 subs on the bench and only 3 can be used?

5 subs named, 5 can be used and it can be done in 5 seperate windows per team - so potentially 10 stoppages in the second half

I think I saw something from Matt Lench on Twitter(X) who wasn't particularly happy with the changes

Get ready for 5+ minutes added time to be the absolute minimum

I think the only thing that's missing is the 7 subs for our league. I don't see why the national league wouldn't have that for all it's divisions. For those teams that have big squads, great, for those that don't, surely it would give development opportunities for younger players to be in and around the first team squad if nothing else.

I think it's a great change and having seen it last season at Step 5 work well all season, it will allow more players to get game time and better potential tactical changes for managers as well.

If you can use 5 subs what's the point of not going the whole hog and having 7 subs just like at step 1?

After all during covid steps 1 & 2 were both classed as 'Elite' so there should be no difference between the two.
