In Gavin we trust?

Recommended Posts

I appreciate that (1) we have not yet kicked a ball in anger and; (2) transfer business is likely not finished, but is remaining in NLS already looking like a step too far with this squad? Somehow Gavin needs to replace a 30+ goal striker and shore up a very porous defence. Perhaps it will all click into place in a couple of weeks, but I'm currently more apprehensive than optimistic. Its no mean feat to progress from Step 3, and if we aren't able to consolidate at Step 2 then it may be a good few years before it comes round again. I have everything crossed that Gavin can work wonders!

As I recall, Bradley Quinton got promotion from this division with a squad largely formed from Town;

Aveley did very well last season coming up the previous year;

The Isthmian prem was a very good standard last season and we got promoted;

We have had some recent set backs but we have a good players, a great management team led by Gavin and a committed board led by Paul.

Every reason to look forward to a fantastic season. COYT

Not forgetting that we can now field almost an entire team with  Step 2 experience,  with, I believe,  more to add.

My first game of the season yesterday .. wasnt sure what to expect after the earlier results ..

Only 2 starting players from the Andy Leese era - and 6 from last season

Overall thought the 5 new players individually were decent .. yes we werent as fluid as we could have been because they are all so new!

Pick for me was Leshabela who looked very assured in midfield

Great Ollie cross for the first goal and well put away by Folivi .. and he did another in the second half - hopefully we can recreate this combo a few times at Torquay!

Trialist A who came on and got a brace was very impressive - hopefully we sign him up straight away - I would start him next week!

Yes it was only step 4 opposition but Gav has been dealt a rough hand with departures and injuries ..

Staying up in 20th is the target and I think we can absolutely do this - will just be weird going to games and not expecting us to win every week! Latest odds have us as 50/1 for the league with 4 clubs at 66/1 (Hemel/Tonbrdge/Welling/Weymouth)and Truro 100/1

As for next week, I am sure we will set up to be tough to break down and play on the counter - so long as we dont get stuffed 5-0 which could damage confidence then it is a free hit - and will be great to see an Enfield side playing in front of a big crowd !

Haven't been able to get down preseason so very hard to comment as you can't rely too much on what is a very unsettled team.

Yes, thought we'd struggle losing a player of Marcus' quality so close to the start of the season however seems Gavin was prepared for this and we have definitely strengthened midfield and upfront.

We are still part time against a number of clubs this year with much more experience/money and also operating as full time.   Not sure how many clubs in the South are full time but perhaps someone on here does know?

What Gavin has done in a the space of just over a year has been nothing short of remarkable, playing better football, developing young talent, working to a budget and getting the fanbase behind him when we'd struggled behind the previous management unfortunately

No idea what this season holds for us, it will be difficult for us no doubt however there is nobody I'd rather have at the helm than who we have currently.

I think we'll have a much better idea by probably October/November as to how some of the new players settle in and how well they can link up with the current players we have.

Notts County were promoted to the 2nd division last season after winning the playoff game. Travelled to Sutton Utd for the first game of the season and got thumped 5-0. Notts County challenged for top six whilst Sutton Utd got relegated. It’s a funny old game.
