How about this affair at River Road, will Eaton Socon be 'leg weary' having played at Cranfield United on Tuesday evening, see the match programme:

I wonder whether 'you know who' will make the trip to Kiln Park this afternoon, do we know why he 'defected' from Letchworth Garden City Eagles:

This should be an interesting and well attended affair with Royston Town's first team not in action:

A groundhopper from another Forum was at Cotlandswick:

Spartan South Midlands Division One
London Colney 1-6 Desborough Town
Admission - £7 - I got charged twice so it was a good job I checked my banking app. They refunded me £7 in cash. Attendance - 24 (headcount taken on 65 mins)
Stats

  • First visit to Cotslandwick and this completed Spartan South Midlands Division One (again)
  • First time seeing London Colney play
  • Fifth time seeing Desborough play. The first was on 3rd August 2021 when they lost at home 0-3 to Cogenhoe. The second was also a 3-0 defeat away to GNG Oadby. The third was a 4-3 defeat away to Coventry United and the fourth was a 4-0 defeat away to Histon.

Ground - Cotslandwick - Located off a side road on the North Orbital it shares space with an Irish Sports Club and a rugby club. There is minimal parking at the football club but I just parked on the rugby club car park which seemed like it wasn’t being used today and walked up the lane. It’s a very basic ground with a large modern seated stand and a tiny shelter with a bench underneath it next to it. The club house is small and behind the goal. The pitch was appalling with all sorts of lumps and bumps being covered by the extremely long grass.
Game - Desborough had an excellent chance early on from 6 yards out when the ball bounced back to the number 9. Rather than bending one in to the 3/4 of the goal which was empty, he decided to try and sneak the ball through two defenders and the keeper who covered the final quarter of the goal. To no surprise it deflected out for a corner. Desborough continued to look the more dangerous with another two chances which went straight at the Colney keeper. A direct free kick from the visitors again went straight to the keeper but he spilt it before recovering. Desborough were willing to shoot from anywhere with another effort blasted over before another just evaded the crossbar. The first chance for Colney came around 20 minutes in when an overhead kick was sent to the moon. Desborough took a deserved lead at around 23 minutes when the unmarked number 10 was able to bring the ball out of the air and half volley into the near side bottom corner squirming under the keeper. 0-1. Desborough were playing some good stuff and following some good positive passing play, the number 9 fired just wide. Number 9 finally got a goal when a ball was chipped over the top to the edge of the area, the Colney keeper rushed out but the number 9 managed to control it with his head, bringing it down and hitting it into the net past a defender on the line. 0-2. Desborough number 2 was booked for a late challenge on the left winger at around 34 minutes. From the resulting free kick a corner was won before the corner was successfully headed in by Colney’s number 5 for an undeserved goal. 1-2. The winging number 2 for Colney who had gone down three times ‘injured’ was booked when he didn’t win a free kick for feigning injury, getting up and charging into a Desborough player with his elbow before getting skinned and tripping the player who skinned him. The away side came close again when the ball was flashed across the goal but two onrushing players couldn’t get on the end of it. Again Desborough came close but were denied by a good close range save. Immediately after some good work down the left saw a cross headed straight at the keeper. Desborough should’ve had 10 goals by now. The finishing from Desborough was sloppy with another perfect chance from 7 yards out being hit straight at the keeper. Half time 1-2. The second half started in the same vain with Desborough coming close early on. The Colney number 3 was booked for pulling back the right winger. Desborough number 6 was then booked for simulation. Colney did have the ball in the net, again from a corner but this time it was punched in by the number 10 so no goal given and a yellow card collected. Almost straight after Desborough got a third when a corner was headed in off of the crossbar and over the line. 1-3. Again, straight from kick off Desborough won the ball and worked it up to the number 9 who made the Colney keeper commit to a low save but the number 9 was alive and smashed the ball off the inside of the post and in. 1-4. Desborough got a fifth on a counter attack from a corner, again from number 9. Despite the Colney defender lying on the floor and getting his fingers to the ball, the number 9 kept his composure to smash into the top corner from 10 yards out. 1-5. Desborough got a penalty shortly afterwards when a desperate lunge with both feet off the floor (albeit not dangerous) by the Colney number 5 was penalised. The number 9 skied it over the bar however. Another close chance for visitors when the ball was whipped in from the right and a shot was excellently saved by the stretching Colney keeper. A further penalty was awarded to Desborough in injury time for a lazy trip. Number 15 was given the opportunity this time and made no mistake straight down the middle. 1-6. Desborough genuinely could’ve and should’ve had 20.
