Leverstock Green FC

I'm not sure what his full or proper name is but the lad that played at the back last night called 'Pat' looked a decent defender.

Calm, good positioning, talkative and wanted the ball, liked him.....👍

Central or as a full back?

How did we play?

6 games into pre season with no trialists playing in the first half we should be starting to look like a decent side.

Thought we did a professional job against a very well drilled and defensive Leverstock. They caused us issues with the numbers they had in defence and I thought it was an excellent test should we come up against a team looking to keep a clean sheet and defend against us. We did well to stick with it, Sam Evans first goal at home was pretty fortunate due to the keeping error, but you make your own luck. Prospers was an excellent finish from a worldie assist from Scott and a fairly bread and butter corner goal which I would expect to be a real weapon for us with the size of some of our players!!!

Agree Donny, the young centreback in the 2nd half looked very assured and the left back trialist looked superb again. Not sure about the other 2, didn't really show too much IMO.

All in all, a good exercise in pre-season and a good bounceback from Saturday at Chertsey.

Always interesting how opinions differ, as I thought we looked very disjointed in the first half particularly, lingered on the ball for too long (rather than move the ball around two touch at pace), lost possession too often, didn’t create enough clear cut chances & were lucky not to concede.

There were lots of changes at half-time, most of which I didn’t know & I doubt we will be signing, and Leverstock ran out of steam…. but Sam Evans looked big, strong & lively so I would mark him down for 15+ goals this season.

Two very contrasting opinions.

SF saying that we did a professional job on a defense minded step 4 side and Curtis saying we looked disjointed, lost possession too often, didn't create enough clear cut chances and were lucky not to concede.

We did still have players missing in Gilbert, Spicer, Roth, George and of course Lenchy when fit but clearly improvement is needed.

So the mystery left back did well again, could be a decent signing.

I think Lench is out for 3 months so we’re looking around October for him to be in contention. I’m hoping Spicer can push on this season and claim a regular starting position. Gilbert I would expect to start.

I saw a fair bit of Leverstock last season as my lad Jamie was there until he needed a back operation at the end of the year, they are a well organised and hard working bunch and earned a promotion last season.

It was just a good run out for all the lads of both sides, preseason is weird, its just so disjointed and although you want to win the main aim is getting the legs and lungs going and looking at players.

My lot at Slough Heating had another preseason match last night and we had 29 players involved, we effectively had three sides playing one match.

Agree that 2/3rds of a pre season will be disjointed because its all about match fitness and using trialists.

With just 3 pre season games left I think it's the right time to concentrate on the squad, with the use of any trialists kept to the bare minimum.
