Bar/catering assistant

I was surprised to read that the club are advertising for a Bar/Catering Assistant and are paying a wage for this position.

This is a first for the club and must be connected with the new bar/clubhouse when it opens.

My first thought was to congratulate you on getting the job!
 

But in all seriousness on one hand it shows the clubs progress and the aim of being busier but on the other hand is it fair on those who volunteer?

This sound sounds like a position which would mean more hours which I would guess the ones who volunteer who are working full time or retired will not really want. 

I was told the aim of the new clubhouse is to stay open for more hours during the week as a sort of social club.

Of course this is all dependent on manpower.
