NL changes for next season

Looks like we're going to  have 7 subs on the bench and be allowed to use 5 of them.

Also no Boxing Day and New Years Day reverse fixtures instead it'll be Good Friday and Easter Monday.

A positive move?

7 subs - massive positive especially for a club like ours that has a development/ academy. What a great opportunity for some of the younger players to make their way to adults football.

Boxing Day / NYD - I'm pretty traditional but I have to say I don't think this matters at all really in the scheme of things.

Surely that will massively benefit the bigger teams with the bigger budgets and bigger squads ?

If that's true RR I\m very disappointed.

Hasn't it always been the case teams have had the same opposition Xmas and New Year ?

In my eyes it seems yet another tradition changed for no good reason.

I wouldn't say it's exclusively for the bigger teams with bigger budgets. I wouldn't class us as either of those things HR but I think we could benefit massively from a development point of view from the additional subs.

Does it mean there will be no fixtures on Boxing Day and New Years Day?

If so the only reason I can think of for changing the reverse fixture is that players can now celebrate the festive season.

Otherwise it seems pointless.

As I read the press stories there will be 2 sets of reversing fixtures Boxing Day/Good Friday, New Year's Day/Easter Monday. One team will be Chesham and now Bracknell are out of the play-offs are we back to Hampton & Richmond? Personally, I've always liked the Christmas period reversing fixtures as they felt like a 2 leg tie, could we come out on top on aggregate?

The subs change will benefit teams with bigger squads across the course of a season.

If that's the case how can they be reverse fixtures if they're so far apart?

Hi SloughFlyer.

I agree with you that if this new ruling comes into effect it would help some of our youngsters gain valuable NLS game time, but if we've got 4 experienced NLS players  and 3 untested youngsters on the bench, and the opposition has got 7 experienced  NLS players as subs, I know whose bench I would prefer !

Good point but that's what it says

The 7 subs will apply to step1 only NL.
