Reserves 0-2 Leyton

Recommended Posts

A goal in each half won the game for Leyton in a match of few clear-cut chances. Saints gave a run-out to Wes Jackman, Matt Jones, Ben Cogger, Lee Clarke and new boy Graeme Butler and the Leyton side also included a few first teamers, notably Georges Georgiou.

Leyton's first goal came on the half-hour mark when a City defender was dispossessed and the ball swept in by their left winger.

The second came after 68 minutes from a very quickly taken free-kick on the edge of the box while the City defence dithered. Jackman got a hand to the ball but couldn't keep it out.

Chances were few and far between for the Saints. Adam Smith fired over when well-placed and Ali Collins shot into the side netting to sum up a disappointing night for the second team.

Disapointing crowd too !!

Think your summing up is just about right, although the reserves were not helped by the late withdrawal and unavailability of certain players which lead to a change in the intended team formation. This chopping and changing has happened a lot recently, for obvious reasons, and has unfortunately created a bit of inconsistency in recent performances.

Last nights defeat means the League title has probably passed by and hard work is now needed to push for the runners up spot (still a tremendous achievement I think in our first season at this level) or further cup success. Sure the management will make sure this happens before the vote of confidence is called for <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Still, looking forward to next Tuesdays Herts. Intermediate Cup quarter final, home v Lemsford, which does present a real chance of further progression in the competition.

Any chance of a decent crowd for that one ?

Still disapointed but not downhearted.
