Fixtures

Was just about to post about the rearranged Taunton fixture. Really surprised they’ve agreed to play this one in January having already 6 away games to contend with.

1st Jan - Hamp & Rich (A)

6th Jan - Taunton (H)

9th Jan - Bath (A)

13th Jan - Weymouth (A)

16th Jan - Taunton (A)

20th Jan - Maidstone (H)

23rd - Worthing (A)

27th - Dover (A)

30th - Yoevil (A)

The Maidstone home game isn’t safe either as that would also be the day the 4th round of the FA Cup is being played and I think they have a good shot at making it!

Games have to usually be rescheduled to be played within 45 days of the original postponement or next available if those Tuesdays are already taken

Some of these will either be frozen off or waterlogged so I wouldn't worry too much...

Very true but that’ll just give us a fixture pile up towards the end of the season! When will these idiots in charge learn to use the first 3-4 months of the season midweek slots more? It’s not hard to see that later on there’s more likely to postponements!

Yep, pretty much bang on. Had a look at the National League rules for this season and it confirms that. Tough for us.

Seven of those games are away to some of the longest journeys.

Weymouth, Taunton, Yeovil and Bath.

Yeovil, Taunton and Bath being on a Tuesday night.

Coming straight after the cost of Christmas is not ideal and will certainly be a big stretch financially for supporters who like to attend away games.

It’s a busy January that’s for sure! We’re playing every Saturday and midweek. It’ll certainly test our (small?) squad but hopefully we’ll hear of some reinforcements imminently.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Stephen Bala go back to QPR very shortly so reinforcements are definitely needed.

Yes i can see that too as he’s not played too much so far and we have Gary Abisogun back now.

How far down the road is Gary Abisogun in getting back to full match fitness?

Might be a good few weeks before we see the best of him.

And then of course Bayliss is on the come back from an injury after his previous aborted come back.

He’s played 4 or 5 games out on loan so I’d hope he’s pretty near. He possibly won’t start for us yet but a great sub option currently.

Scott, is this strapping due to injuries or to stop injuries?

It looks like players seem to be prone to more injuries although on paper they are fitter?

Is this down to working out more in gyms where they are targeting specific muscles and building them to their limits, which means that if they then exceed the limit of the muscle, they injure that muscle or an associated part of the body i.e. tendon etc.

I have often wondered if a “naturally” fit individual who has built their physic though day to day natural activities in a manual job may have a more resilient body than the “artificial” muscle from the gym?

Is getting match time the best way to build the muscles and robustness for players?

Some of the players from the building trade tend to be very resilient, although their bodies do suffer in the long term.

Be interested in your thoughts.

Put it this way, I’ve never done a gym session in my life and up until a few weeks ago I’d missed 2 games in 9 and a half seasons through injury!
I think players can overdo it in the gym these days, that’s just my thoughts!

The strappings are to help with stopping muscle cramps/tightness etc!
