Enfield Town 1 Waltham Abbey 0

Recommended Posts

In driving rain Waltham Abbey should have gone in at half time 3 - 0 up but instead Town went in 1 - 0 up and that is the way it stayed.

First Kevin Riley conceeded a penalty and the penalty taker shot well wide phew.

Then there was some superb shooting forcing 3 or 4 awesome saves from Chopper MoM.

Then in towns first attack we won a corner and Stuart Snowden scored from the corner straight in.

Ooops 1 - 0.

Second half town changed the structure bringing on Cooperman and Graeme Hall. Town looked more composed and the rain and driving winds eased which helped.

Town looked worth the win on the second half performance but the first half we were a bit lucky!

No complaints about the ref who I thought was good!

Fair enough but...

Penalty was not "well wide" it actually struck the post with your keeper guessing the wrong way.

2nd half you started stronger but Abbey controlled the latter stages.

Should be an interesting league encounter next week.

I thought the Ref should have sent of the guy who gave away the pen and one of the linos was too bad for words!

Complaining about the officials,Abbeyman....you'll be branded a bunch of whingers if you keep that up.

Abbey had the better of the opening exchanges, and maybe deserved to sneak in at half-time 1-0 up instead of 0-1 down.

I thought Enfield Town controlled the second-half and fully deserved the narrow win....Abbey only threatening in the ten minutes of time-added.

Was the 'Birdman' there tonight,i didn't see him.

finally which one was 'pinnicle'...tell me it wasn't the Greg howell look-alike.

I think that Enfield's goal should have been credited to the wind and rain.

I also think that Riley was lucky to stay on the pitch after the penalty.

I thought that the game lacked passion and seemed to be played at a walking pace. The conditions may have something to do with that. In the first half I did wonder why I had come.

As for the result. A team consists of 11 players and Andy Hall is just as much part of the team as everyone else. He had a blinder so Abbey did not deserve to win as they could not beat him. I thought that Enfield were on top for the first 20 mins the ball rarely came out of Abbey's half. It was only when the rain came lashing down that Abbey seemed to come out of their shell. Then they had 2 or 3 good chances including the penalty but you have to put the ball in the net.

The rain and wind did not help enfield in the first half as the ball was frequently overhit and skidded through for a goal kick.

In the second half Enfield missed as many chances as Abbey and deserved their victory.

I thought he ref did not keep up with play and a more forceful game would have left him with problems. I dont know what Abbey man is complaining about as far as the Lino is concerned.

As for Cooper. He looked lost tonight! His lack of first touch was clearly demonstrated when Cove crossed to him in the area and he was unmarked in front of goal. You all know the incident.

Frances again impressed.

Lovely Stuff i was the captain! The Greg Howell look-alike was prob the best player on the pitch.

I think that we deserved at least a draw. You did not have a shot on target did you? As abbeyman said pen hit the post. The save from the header was the best I have seen in a long time...exceptional. Also the open goal in the second half when your defender took it off our players toes.

Someone said the game lacked passion?? Sorry dont agree with that. I think in terrible conditions both teams played some good football.

I was speaking to Jim at the end of the game and he was of the opinion that you were "lucky" to win.

All credit to your guys for getting the game on it must of been hard work. Also your pitch gets a lot of stick, fair enough it has no grass but its probably the flattest in the league. Also credit to your fans for applauding our team off the pitch.

Looking forward to next tuesday.

Pinnacle, you knob, fancy letting people know who you are.......your play is as bad as your comments!!! Only joking mate...

Nice to see some decent comments for a change here. Everyone has their opinion but as soon as you say it, you get called a whinger! Pot kettle Black....Come on real ETFC fans, all season, (and last), you have constantly moaned about officials (True or False?) My only comment is that the league should give more thought to some of these big games they put on. A linesman over 50 on a game like this is not really on is it? On numerous occasions in the second half whether he was right or wrong he was no where near up with play. Fact, ask you steward who was standing with us in the 2nd half. Ref was OK, best Ref was doing the other line, we deserved something, (I think you will agree)It was a good game in poor conditions. Riley should have walked. See you all next week....this is what football is all about!!

why does it matter if they know who i am?

whitey (no 8) and sontag (left wingback) were both quality last night.

i agree about the old boy, as abbey nut said right or wrong he was not up with play! and the size of those glasses! i think the ref was poor to be honest, to inconsistant for both sides. and the other lino is by far the best ref in the league. he is at the game next week although i hope he has a whistle instead of a flag!

in saying all that the ref had no bearing on the score, our keeper did that!

On the balance of things I think Abbey might just have deserved a win. We didn't manage one shot in the first half and scored a fluke goal whilst Abeey forced Chopper to make a number of good saves. In the second half things were more even with both sides coming close although I do think Abbey created better chances than ours. Well played Abbey, you deserved something out of this but then, that's footie.

The ref had a good game. In those conditions there were always going to be mistakes by players and these mistakes could have resulted in sendings off. There was nothing malicious in the game and it flowed pretty well.

Well, for what it's worth, I thought that although the game could hardly be called a classic, it wasn't too bad considering the conditions. Overall I would have said a draw would have been about the right result.

I thought we shaded it - but only just - up until the penalty incident, but without creating any real chances. Then Abbey had a 5 or 10 minute spell of real pressure when Chopper made that fantastic save, and there was some last ditch defending and blocking by the Town defence. Yes, Abbey should have scored but as Steph says, that's what goalies and defenders are there for!

Then Stuart skillfully made use of the high wind, by spotting the Abbey keeper's positioning and cleverly curling a corner in at the far post.

Second half, Town came out a bit more fired up, and also had a 5 or 10 minute spell when we could have scored, but the Abbey defence coped well and also caught us offside on several occassions. Abbey weathered the little storm (pardon the pun)and came back into it strongly in the last 10 or 15 minutes, and had two really good chances to score - the open goal situation, when the guy should have shot first time but no doubt because of the conditions elected to control the ball first, only for a defender (couldn't see who - Stuart?) to whip it off his toe. Then the high lob over Chopper - I think it hit the bar, did Chopper touch it? It cane back out to a forward but Chopper bravely got there first.

Ref I thought did ok, one or two slightly odd decisions both ways - Clarkey was awarded a free kick for no apparent reason right in front of me, and his expression was worth the entrance money alone! However, I also feel that the ref might have struggled had the game turned a bit more, err, robust. In all honesty I didn't have a good enough view of the Riley pen incident to opine whether or not he should have walked.

So I can see why Abbey feel a bit unlucky, I reckon they certainly deserved a draw, and had more and better chances, but overall play I thought was about even.

Roll on next Tuesday!

invisable man i think me and you watched the same game, you got it right mate. possesion you had slightly more but we certainly created more/better chances.

yes the keeper did get a touch and onto the bar. to be fair i think what you said is pretty much everyones opinion of the game.

did you have a full side out? we had a few missing but we have had a few players out probably every game of the season but i think thats the same for almost every team.

a few of us stayed until the bar shut and was speaking to one of you lot and he was saying that your new signing Pearcey has gone on the missing list!

i will tell our keeper that the corner was meant then shall I??? im sure that will make him feel better!

Abbeynut - forget the darts (too many poisoned arrows!) why don't you get a team togther and come along to our quiz night; we have invited a few other clubs.

As for the game.... ref had a quiet one, which was good, but agree he was inconsistent.

re the pen - no question; FYI - the lino gave it before the ref.

ETFC do not have enuff shots, we seem to want to score from 6 yards, at least Snowy proved we can score from distance!!!

but Abbeynut - you never waved to the crowd behind the goal - shame on you
