v Eastbourne Borough

I'm hesitant to start the ball rolling as I wasn't at the game (relying on the excellent Rebels Radio), but seeing as nobody else has yet commented...

This sounds like another game where a desperately poor first half, and start to the second half, cost us. The plaudits will naturally focus on our comeback from 3-1 down, but for me this isn't the point. For the second game running we didn't show up for the first half, and only start playing when the opposition has been given a 2-goal lead. We've shown what we can do, but why does this only manifest sporadically and fleetingly?

For me these are 2 points dropped, although time will tell whether I'm right or not. All I will say is that 3 wins from 14 games, and still in the bottom four (bear in mind that we're nearly in November) does not look good. And draws (however impressive the comeback) won't keep us afloat; we need to start winning.

Perhaps Scotty should remind the players that kick-offs are 15:00 on Saturdays and not 16.20, and that midweeks are 19.45 (and is 14:00 this coming Sunday!)?

I’ll do the summary…

We are never going to have it our own way for 90 minutes in any game we play. We aren’t an Ebbsfleet of last season who dominated pretty much from start to finish. There are going to be periods in games when backs are against the wall! It’s football.

We were missing Lenchy, Temi, George and then Nashy after 6 minutes. 4 starters for us and I think that’s been proven with them playing in every match that they’ve been fit. Take 4 regular starters out of the side and travel to any team in the league and it’s going to be a tough ask.

Im extremely proud of the character the boys shown today, even if we weren’t great for 45 minutes. Walking out of the ground today, it actually felt like a win.

I completely agree that 3 wins in 14 isn’t great, but the league is so tight and there are still many points to play for. Once we get the consistency with the team I’m sure the results will come. We’ve had to change it through injury and suspension a lot recently which doesn’t help.

Sometimes a draw can be an extremely good point and I think today was one or those! I think the travelling fans will probably agree from where we were after 60-65 minutes.

Scott are you able to explain George’s absence today? 3 of our next 4 league matches are currently against teams in and around us and it’s vital we get a couple of wins from those otherwise we could be even further adrift.

The windy  conditions was not great and the team looked like they had been hit with Lasagnegate spurs v West ham game of a few seasons back they were all over the place.

Eastbourne could should of been 5 nil up at half time they sqandered chances galore Rohan made some brilliant saves.

Gets to 2 - 1 back in the game and immediately we let in a third I said to there supporters you have not seen a Slough team when they are 2 goals behind gets to 3 - 3 they immediately score again but offside they blasted a sitter over the bar then the Rebels had them on the ropes last 10 minutes David down the wing was put a great cross into the box only needed a touch for a 4th goal it really was and could of been a  bigger smash and grab of 1 point that could of turned into 3 points.

Rohan, Scott's Class and David on the wing for 90minutes were superb.

Real grit from the team but Eastbourne will remember this game for years and wonder how they did not score 8 goals.

We are a small squad who imo rely heavily on certain players to perform at our best.

It really revolves around the spine of our squad.

In central defence we need the Temi and Bayliss partnership along with the experience of Scott to be a defensive unit that are difficult to score against.

We need Lenchy and Nash at his best to have a central midfield that's at it's most effective.

Up front we need George firing and hopefully Mickel Platt when he's fit will give our forward line a boost and become an effective partner for George.

Of course all the other players not mentioned are very important to our team and squad but I view those mentioned above as 'lynch pins' in our squad and when they are missing we are not nearly as effective.

Anyway that's my rationale for our current sporadic and inconsistent performances.

I stood more or less halfway line in the second half favouring our attacking half. The Eastbourne fans stayed put, so I was surrounded! The anxiety amongst them was amazing to witness as what had seemed a foregone win was evaporating in front of their eyes. The longer the game wore on the more likely it was that we were going to win, in fact we probably needed another 10 minutes to achieve it. It was a great fight back, but why do we give teams a head start?!! We were wide open for their 2nd & 3rd goals and the first was shot through a crowd of players that Luthra couldn't have seen as he barely seemed to move.

They could certainly have been 3 up at half time. Second half a different story, same as at St. Albans. Luckily Eastbourne's 4th "goal" was off side, unlike St. Albans' 3rd.

Thought Mikel Platt had an impressive debut, stood strong against their big defenders and got himself a goal. Accepting that we don't have a massive squad, I thought our "depleted" team gave a very good account of themselves overall and it felt like a win although it wasn't.

I thought a draw against Eastbourne away from home was a good result.

Are you suggesting, RR, that Nathan Minhas is no longer up to the task?

I get your notion on Slough's best players being needed to churn out results in the National South but do not agree necessarily with the spine you mentioned. Now's not the time to go in depth about it, as we have this important FA Cup match on Sunday to address. I hope Slough do themselves justice against a Football League opposition.Whatever, we've done well to get this far.

So who would you put in the spine of our team?

It's no secret on my part that I think Nathan still has to prove he's up to this level.

I'd love nothing more than for him to prove me wrong.
