FA Cup 1st Round - Slough v Grimsby

I would expect a replay would earn the club about £40k in shared gate revenue & TV funds…… what could that get the club in terms of potentially strengthening the squad even further?

And there would still be an outside chance of winning the replay, picking up the £40k prize money & a lucrative second round match.

Absolutely not the worst result.

My thoughts totally align with yours Curtis, sorry RR.

A draw would be a great result in my eyes.

A chance of another match with a "proper" League team at their ground would bring back unforgettable memories of previous cup replay nights at Cardiff and Reading.

Yes, you might say a replay would be a distraction from the nitty gritty realism of avoiding relegation, but the league season is 9  months long and involves 46 games.

Are we going to have the same attitude as those arrogant Premier League teams who find the FA Cup an inconvenience , and can't wait to get knocked out of the competition to concentrate on staying up ?

The day Slough Town have that attitude is the day I fall out of love of non-league football.

Obviously our best chance to progress is winning on Sunday at home, with the pitch advantage and home support. But if we can get a second bite of the cherry then I’d be doing my upmost to be there and hopefully witness another historic match. You would hope the funds we’ve already made plus any extra from Sunday will allow Scott to bring in new players as and when required.

No problem HR we can't always agree and be right all the time 😅

Not sure on your analogy comparing our plight with Premier League teams.

When it comes to staying in the premier league your talking squillions of pounds.

The FA Cup winners get just a few million so maybe not so much arrogance as greed.

I would suggest a draw and having to go up to Grimsby on a Tuesday would not enhance our chances of getting away the relegation zone.

I see where you're coming from RR, but surely the same could be said for winning the game (which is presumably what we all want)? That will mean another fixture to fit in, which could end up being Carlisle away for all we known; these distractions are just part & parcel of a cup run.

And I don't see how losing helps us in this regard either.

I simply won't be too upset should we lose. Grimsby are 2 divisions higher than us and are therefore expected to win. The pressure and expectation is all on them.

I've been keeping an eye on the Grimsby website waiting for a "Sold Out" message to appear there for tickets for Sunday's Cup match.

There hasn't been one.

The Grimsby ticket info for our match says that any remaining tickets for their fans will go on general sale on Monday. ( Today.)

I've just been on their ticket website and it looks like tickets are still available for Grimsby fans should they want to buy one.

You can add a ticket to your basket and choose which method ( collection at ground or by post ) you'd prefer to receive it.

You then get passed on to a page were you have to create an account with them, which obviously I won't do.

If the tickets in my basket are truly available to be purchased,  I have to say I'm very surprised.

I thought a club like Grimsby would easily and quickly sell 500 tickets, even for a game on a Sunday.

My memory is fading fast but I don't recall anyone saying in 1982 let's hold Millwall to a draw and have a glamorous, money-spinning replay down at The (old) Den.

If Grimsby don't sell out I'm sure we could sell the remaining tickets either with the ones on the waiting list or maybe on the day.

Farnborough currently have 24 points  20 won at home  just 4 points away from home and 0 away wins. Could have been a much tougher draw !

Sorry wrong thread could one of our savvy members please move it to the trophy thread

We are one of the few teams to have taken points from them at their place and we have strengthened our squad recently
