FA Cup 1st Round - Slough v Grimsby

Excellent result Rebels, shame we couldn’t hold onto our lead and had we had a little more luck one of other 3 goal bound efforts would have gone in. But a draw is still a mammoth effort and the very least we deserved. Yes it’s a horrible long midweek trip upto Grimsby but we should hold no fear and go for it. Must also mention how well this afternoon was organised, the crowd limit was just right and everything ran smoothly and professionally, well done to all involved 👏

After drawing blanks in both game against  Rochdale & Gillingham i'd love to hear the roar of the first ever goal scored at Arbour Park against a League side & how big a part us fans could make. All the pressure is on Grimsby ,& this is a free hit with nothing to lose that i'm really looking forward to.

COYR ( serve with honour).

Well you certainly got that roar. Very proud of the team. No reason to go to Grimsby with any fear.

Saw Steve Easterbrook was at the game . He must be so proud how far the club has come. The foundations he laid are being well and truly built on. Leaving aside the result todays game was so well organised , the ground looked and felt tremendous, the adverts sponsorship , catering and general experience was 1st class.  Great to see so many staying behind for a drink enjoying the band.

I'm not really getting the reticence of people on this forum! Nearly 4 hours on, and only 4 comments (one of which is from a Grimsby fan)???

We have a lot to be proud of; today we made a team from 2 divisions higher (and quarter-finalists last season) look ordinary for much of the game, and I'm actually a little disappointed that we only drew. If we play like we did today in the league more often, we won't be in trouble.

Let's not lose sight of what's important however; we now have 2 massive league games coming up which are IMO even more important than the replay.

PS commiserations to Reading Rebel on the excellent result today 😜

Everyone from the playing and coaching staff, and the many volunteers did themselves and the club proud.

I’d say overall, a draw was probably about right. Grimsby’s fitness saved them in the end, I think. A few of our players were out on their feet last 15 but still managed to stir for one last effort at the end. Scotty was immaculate and Sundire was my motm, covered every blade of grass and dominated the midfield. Alexander put in a hell of a shift up front, worked tirelessly.

Don’t know about anyone else, but the moment Scott stepped up for the free kick, you just knew.

We just got some good coverage on BBC Three MOTD FA Cup Highlights tonight. We're second on the billing if anyone wants to watch on catch-up, and features interviews with Scotty and Lenchy (who apparently dreams of Tuesday nights at Grimsby!)

I think back to 2 years ago vs Whitehawk, and how those sorts of games make these all the sweeter.

Yes very good exposure on the BBC highlights show this evening. Wasn’t expecting such a long feature on us but it’s lovely to see and shows the club in a great light. I personally can’t make the replay and I’m sure many others will be in the same boat I’m hoping the club might be able to arrange a live stream of the game?

We'll soon see Nathan.

Great day and occasion but the league is far more important in the bigger picture.

It's the morning after the night before.
( Well, afternoon before to be precise).
These are the thoughts of this particular Rebels fan.
I thought everyone connected to Slough Town were magnificent yesterday.
To my eyes all the arrangements and planning for the day went smoothly.
So much work must have been put in by those behind the scenes to make this happen, and they should all be very proud of themselves this morning.
It was great to see so many people packed behind the goals.
Was a fantastic sight both watching there at the ground and for those watching the highlights  on tv.
Loved the massive banners behind the goals too.
Arbour Park looked a proper football ground !
I wasn't able to watch the match from my usual position, as that was given to the Grimsby fans, so I had to find another area to view the game.
As I was in the ground fairly early, I chose a seat in the main stand.
I found out that you get a great view from there !
When I heard the team announced over the tannoy, I have to say I felt a bit disappointed that we were playing with only George up front.
I'm never a fan of this formation, but I  thought I could understand Scotty's reason's for doing so.
The bugler before the kick off was class.
Note perfect.
I read somewhere that he had done the same at the Fulham v Man U game previously.
I don't know if that was true but it wouldn't surprise me as he was that good.
But why only 15 seconds silence after the Last Post ?
Must be a reason I guess, a reason which escapes me.
The game kicked off, and for the first 10 minutes my fears about the formation seemed apt.
I thought we let Grimsby dictate play and we were very passive.
There was then a crunching block tackle by Tyrese right in front of me, and a couple of Slough attacks, which changed the tone of the game, and proved once again Scotty knows a bit more about football tactics than I do.
When I left home for the match, I just hoped that when the final whistle blew, win, lose or draw, we had had a go at Grimsby.
When the game ended, I was proud of my team because we had.
Every player put a mighty shift in.
A replay was the least we deserved.
And we scored !
Celebrating that goal, with so many cheering fans behind the goal was bloody awesome !
It was pleasing to see old familiar faces in the crowd, such as Dobbo, Jamie Jackson, John Porter and Steve Easterbrook.
I'd like to think Bakes' and Unders' were there somewhere too.
So to the replay.
I would hope after yesterday's 90 minutes  that the players realise that Grimsby Town are not to be feared.
Respected of course, as they are full-time pro's ,but not to be in awe of them.
Another match in this magical cup competition, much to Reading Rebels displeasure.
( Sorry about that Reading Rebel !  Only joshing.)
There was only one thing that spoilt yesterday for me.
Getting home and realising that the BBC had given an over-excited 11 year old boy the mic to commentate on the game.
They could at least have waited until his voice had broken before giving him that role.
Oh to have had the classic sound of BBC legend David Coleman saying his famous ONE NIL ! as Scotty's shot hit the back of the Grimsby net.
Overall though,a fantastic day to be a Rebels fan.

Excellent first half from us.

3 very good chances to score, one where their keeper made a good save tipping it over the bar, George hitting the post and of course Scott's tremendous free kick.

Second half was a completely different story.

We seemed to become more passive, by that I mean we weren't getting in their faces and marauding forward.

It was either that we ran out of legs or we just dropped deeper and deeper trying to preserve our 1-0 lead.

Either way Grimsby took control of the midfield putting us under a lot of pressure with the equalizer always looking on the cards.

Great day for the club and a  great effort from the team.

FA Cup: Watch the best goals from the first-round games - BBC Sport

Scotts Goal is at the end of the clip but repeated multiple times - I think they liked it!

SEE IF WE CAN GET HIM TO WEMBELY LIKE WE DID WITH ALEX "THE MULLET" HADDOW

Another excellent personal match day report from you HR.

Hopefully the coming weeks will dispel my reported fears and displeasure at a replay.

BTW to be precise it was still the morning after the night before 😅

Also I thought the clapping started immediately the Bugler stopped with no 15 seconds of silence but I could be wrong on that.
