Ebbsfleet FA Cup replay

Listened in on Rebels Radio, I hope this entitles me to say GET IN YOU REBELS! We sounded composed and not troubled all evening.

Though this makes me sick about the performances against Worthing & Tonbridge! Had you told me 6/7 weeks ago we'd go 9 unbeaten and be in the FA Cup First Round, I'd have said you were off your rocker.

This is just the sort of tie the club has been crying out for for years. Last year's Quarter-finalists are coming to Arbour Park. COYR!

So disappointed I could not make the game listening on RebelsRadio.

Brilliant result and well played in both games worthy winners.

So glad Rohan got the last laugh on there players his two brilliant saves on Saturday got us the replay and win tonight not dropping the ball a couple of times or being forced into his own net for there goals on sat.

Back in the mid sixties my dad took me to see my first Rebels game, he supported the rebels for over 85 years following them everywhere, it's been nearly 60 years I've been following our great club everywhere and i have to say that was one of the most complete performances i have ever seen from the mighty rebels we were outstanding from start to finish. Just a fantastic achievement.

Thanks Scotty.
I had my mind full of things I wanted to say in this post and you've just spoken about most of them in your after match interview !
Stolen my thunder.
Here goes anyway.
That was a magnificent performance yesterday.
Our players must be feeling shattered this morning, but if the euphoria I'm still feeling now is anything to go by, I hope that theirs will be enough to get them through their working day today..
I approached the replay last night feeling much more apprehensive than I did the first tie on Saturday, just down to how the original game had gone.
One thought gave me a bit of encouragement ,and that was that every time ( sadly there weren't that many ) we attacked them on Saturday ,I thought their defence looked vulnerable.
I was disappointed we only played one up front on Saturday, I'm not a great fan of playing just one attacker, but I could understand the reasoning behind it.
When I heard the team announced over the tannoy last night, with 3 up front I thought that is very brave !
( By the way, does anyone else think the music played over the tannoy is too loud ? Whenever they play a song I don't like, which is most of them, it is painful to listen to ! ).
Our players fought like demons, never giving any Ebbsfleet player a moment to relax on the ball, and kept that effort going from minute 1 to the 94+.

How they managed that I do not know
I have to say that I love seeing opposing teams play it out from the back.
I think Salisbury did it too.
Do their managers think they are playing modern day football tactics ?
Do they think they are clever trying to play the way Pep Guardiola does ?
If you have defenders like Franz Beckenbauer, Paulo Maldini.or Virgil van Dijk, perhaps you might try it..
Not National League level teams and below.
To me you are asking for trouble, just bringing unnecessary pressure onto yourself, especially if the opposing forwards harass your defenders the way our forwards somehow managed to do for the whole match last night.
Ebbsfleet's manager said in his interview after the game that they are now free to concentrate on the League.
I think we've all heard that one before.
Good luck with that when you speak to your bosses.
For a club like us to get to the FA Cup 1st Round is a fantastic achievement, especially when this season we were drawn away each round to increasingly difficult opposition.
For me every season we have reached the "Proper"  rounds of the Cup  marks that season out as a special one.
I think it is a great draw against Grimsby.
I know they have been down in the   National League a bit in recent seasons ,but I always think of them as a historical Football League team.
Much more so than current League teams like Crawley, Harrogate,, AFC Wimbledon or Wyscum.
The pressure really is all on Grimsby, even more so than it was on Ebbsfleet if possible them being a Football League team, and reading their fan's forum comments they are not very happy with their manager or the way they are playing.
And they also don't appear to have won away yet in the League.
Bring it on !
I've got a bloke who lives a couple of doors away from me who is a Grimsby fan.
I can't wait to speak to him !
Well done to Scotty and the whole team and management.
That was a special night yesterday, and it was great to see everyone's happy celebrations after the final whistle.

A great night of football and a fantastic performance from the Rebels.

Without doubt the best team performance since Gainsborough away a few years back.

What I couldn't believe I was seeing was our tactics and formation on the night.

Ebbsfleet wanted to play their passing game out from the back but we played a high pressing game with 3 players lined up on the edge of their area ready to close them down at every opportunity and it worked like a dream.

It's a high risk strategy that requires a tremendous amount of effort and work rate and needs to be done as a collective to pull it off.

Great night and great team performance.

I started a little after you, so have only wracked up 55ish years, but I totally agree with you. I can only think of the Amateur Cup quarter final against Blyth Spartans in 73 and the FA Trophy QF against Morecambe that I would rate more highly as an all round performance - and even then my memory may be embellishing them. Outstanding - unreal effort and execution by the whole squad. The management team's achievement over 72 hours in terms of gameplan, preparation and recovery was nothing short of magnificent.

I still say the performance at Gainsborough Trinity is up there with Tuesday's performance.
