v Weymouth

Hoping we can at least carry on our unbeaten run but we really need a win to start getting clear of the relegation places. Of course it won’t be easy as Weymouth will be having similar thoughts. But our great form plus the 2 loanees back in the squad I hope will see us to victory.

A hugely frustrating match that was, got a feeling we could have played all day and not score. Weymouth were as good as their league position showed and were there for the taking today. Just needed one bit of quality and we would have won, for me that’s 2 points dropped. Why did have to wait until injury time to show some attacking intent and urgency??? We just didn’t have the same attacking prowess of recent games and looked toothless. Yes it’s another a point, clean sheet and we’ve kept the unbeaten run intact but with such a great and unexpected bumper crowd (over 200 more than I was expecting) we’ve not done anything to entice any newbies today which just been even more frustrating for the board.

0-0 Draw - enough said.

Highlight - attendance 976.

Could/should have been a comfortable win  Another litany of missed chances It's only alphabetical order keeping us out of the drop zone. 11 points and goal difference -4 same as team just below us and in drop zone

I don't think any Ebbsfleet spies watching us today would have learnt very much.

I see Ebbsfleet lost again at home today, 0-2.

Ebbsfleet getting no better. Last 10 league games W2 (against teams in bottom third) D1 L 7  very leaky defence I can see us in the next round!

Rare visit by me. Thought we bossed the first half, but Weymouth the second. I'll take a point, as for most of the second half I was expecting a 1-0 defeat. Signs of promise though.

A win next Saturday then away to Cheltenham will do me. Ten minute walk.

Adrian, I'm really not sure how you can be so presumptive to say you can see us in the next round based upon Ebbsfleet being on a poor run of results.

As we all know the NL if far stronger than this division and we are not exactly ripping up the division and scoring for fun.

Definitely 2 points dropped.

We were far superior in every department bar where it matters in the final third.

Weymouth looked very ordinary but as far as I can remember we only made their keeper make one save which was in the first half.

Matt Lench was our only player who performed anywhere near his best with our strikers almost non existent as a goal threat.

Big improvement needed if we're to get anything at Ebbsfleet next week.

I thought Slough started well and should have been 2 or 3 goals up by half time.Just didn't take the chances that came our way.

Second half both teams were dire and I thought we messed up our substitutions [wrong players in wrong positions] and lost any chance of winning the game. For me Weymouth were for the taking but Slough looked like they were playing for a draw !

Two valuable league points dropped in my eyes. Scott on his post match interview said as much. It almost seemed as if Scott and Bobby Wilkinson had done a deal at half time for a draw, as the match turned into such an uninspiring negative affair that Slough looked a pale shadow of the Slough teams efforts of the first half.

I was flabberghasted when we took Dom Hutchinson off as he was actually beating his man and getting crosses in and was looking a real threat to Weymouth. Given that he won't be playing in the FA cup match why take him off? Johnny Goddard was the one that should have made way imo. He's the one we could have rested.

When Scott came on I thought he was going to go into midfield as Weymouth had done nothing upfront and our defence had coped easily[bar the one Dan Roberts chance]. When he went into defence I was gobsmacked and thought he was thinking more about the Ebbsfleet cup game than getting 3 points against the very poor on the day Weymouth team.

Oh well such is football. 45 or so minutes of pleasure, and 50 or so minutes of painful boring watching. £8 well spent and £7 wasted ! 😞

I certainly don't think Weymouth bossed the second half.

The second half was a non event from both sides but I think we were still the better side.

I can understand George being substituted as Scott explained but yes didn’t agree with Dom coming off as I felt he was playing well and still carried a threat. Of course there are no easy games but yesterday was certainly a very winnable one and I just hope we don’t come to regret it. It’s a real shame we couldn’t have put on a show and win with a big crowd in place.

Well, what is there to say about yesterday's game?

We kept a clean sheet.

We got a point.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr not much else.

I would much rather talk on here about something that I read in our excellent matchday programme.

There is a regular article in its pages which has a member of the squad answering questions put to them under the headline 'Rebel Revealed'.

The person in the spotlight yesterday was Scott Davies.

One of the  questions asked was......

'If you could create a new rule in football what would it be and why?'

Scotty's answer was

'That you could kick it in from throw-ins.  Think it would make for a better game!'

Now I  don't know if this was a serious answer to the question or just a jokey response, but Scott is too young to have witnessed Slough's 1994/95 league campaign.

For a lot of us on here, yours truly included, 1994/95 is fairly recent history!

in 1994/95 Dave Russell's Rebels were in the Isthmian (Diadora) League.

Les Briley's Rebels had been relegated from the Conference the previous season after a late 1-0 loss to Halifax, and several other last day of the season results going against us.

Dave Russell's Rebels got us promoted back to the Conference at the first time of asking this season despite finishing only runners up to champions Enfield due to some 'financial irregularities' or suchlike at Enfield.

Why am I focussing on the season 1994/95?

Because for the whole of the league season 1994/95 we were subjected to kick-ins!

I think FIFA instructed the F.A to select a minor league to try out this experiment for one season.

(I think leagues in Hungary and Belgium were asked as well).

( Continued on next post.)
