Aveley (H) Sat 9th Sept

Yes excellent result  That's twice now we've  beaten teams with the top points and neither scored against us I'm sure what's changed is a growing belief and self confidence  most of all the development of a team that understands each other. Early days we saw some talented individuals who really didn't interact with team mates. That's changed  and I look forward to better results after a poor start

Anyone know the attendance today?

A surprisingly poor 615, lowest of the season. I know it was sweltering but with all the initiatives the club laid on plus a great win on Tuesday I really thought we’d get around 750. Nevermind we can only keep playing well and winning and hope the crowds increase.

Things are improving! The table-toppers barely troubled us all afternoon, and it wouldn't have flattered us if we'd won by one or two more. I can't remember the last time I saw us so dominant.

The confidence is starting to return, as is the pre-season optimism. What a difference a week and two wins makes! Long may it continue.

Great result and performance in that heat 1st goal was terrific but must score the other chances created afterwards.

COYREBELS

Well worth watching the Rebels today even if it is costing me £180 to stay at the Moxy Hotel as all trains cancelled due to 2 major incidents from London to the South West.

I reckon our improved form is down to a few things.

Firstly the partnership at the back between Temi and Dan Bayliss making us look more solid defensively.

Switching Jeanmal Prosper from full back to midfield, where he's been a revelation, again making us a more solid unit in the midfield area.

And adding the pace and directness of Dom Hutchinson alongside George Alexander.

Tyrese Dyce also makes a huge difference when he is in the team, too. To me it proves that we need to play as many of our better players in the first eleven to move this team up the table. Our club shouldn't be expecting youngsters to fill the gaps in this division. Of course there's room for one or two academy players to find their way onto the bench and get occasional minutes and it may lead to unearthing a 'nugget' but let's be realistic to get anywhere near the play offs you need quality seasoned players across the pitch.

On yesterday's game I thought the heat actually helped Slough get the win as the Aveley players didn't have the same enthusiasm/fight as the Slough players did to chase lost causes in the humid conditions. Looking on at Aveley I thought they had a few livewire players who on another day could have given Slough problems but in truth they rarely threatened Slough's goalkeeper, and once Slough scored it seemed to drain their efforts and if anything galvanised the Rebels for the win. Although their number 7 looked particularly useful early on and Dan Bayliss had his work cut out with him [with Tyrese pushing up in the wing back role]. I'm glad it wasn't a milder day !

I, too thought Jeanmal Prosper had an outstanding game in midfield by breaking up Aveley's attacks and setting up Slough's forwards. Dom Hutchinson also caught the eye with his contribution and George Alexander's non stop work rate up front epitomised the best of Slough's game but well done to all our lads across the pitch for a fine gutsy performance in that testing heat.

Could the fact that it was available on the streaming service have anything to do with this ?

I'm not sure, as I think it was announced at fairly short notice.

It would be very interesting though  to see the figures as to how many people subscribed to the game yesterday.

I said a few weeks ago that I do think streaming will have an  effect on our attendances on Tuesday nights in the middle of winter but that obviously is yet to be seen.

As for the game yesterday, I thought Scotty was a bit downbeat ( is that the right word ? )  in his interview after the game.

I thought there was lots to enthuse about.

I guess Scott doesn't want people to get carried away too much.

Yes, it was hot, but it was the same for both teams and I thought we snuffed out Aveley's attacking threats comfortably for most of the game.

Going forward I thought we looked dangerous for the whole 90 minutes.

Tremendous shift put in by all our players, but like Scotty  I have to say what a fantastic performance by George.

The amount of running and closing down of Aveley players that George did the whole 90 minutes was incredible.

I'm pretty sure I saw him towards the end of the game chasing an Aveley player right down to one of our own corner flags.

If you can bottle all that energy can I have some please !

It was a great team performance which built on the good things we saw in the Dartford game.

A month late, but the season starts now !

To be honest I was absolutely exhausted after the game so didn’t have the energy to be too hyper! It was a great win but there’s always improvements to be made. Yes it’s a good result and been a very good week but I’m still disappointed with our points total. Hopefully it’ll kickstart us now but football has a cruel way of biting you in the ass if you get too high with the wins, so I’d rather keep a lid on things and just focus on the next game!
