v Chippenham

A ground where we normally find it difficult to get any sort of result.

Being less that 48 hrs since Torquay I would certainly look to freshen it up.

Having a player of Lenchy's quality back will certainly give us a timely boost whether he's in the right condition to start is obviously something Scott will have to look at.

Not sure Lench will be match fit although I think he may be sub. He’ll certainly is a welcome addition though. Hopefully Mickel isn’t too far from being included in the squad either.

Yes possibly although I think Lenchy is a naturally fit lad despite the odd beer or two on his holls.  😅

Strange results last 2 seasons both teams  had 2  1-0 wins and both had 2 6-1 wins Theye only had 2 home games this season one a single goal win the other a single goal loss A hard game which could go either way imo.

First half we had a few good chances we didn’t take BUT 2nd half we were very poor!!

Yet another formation change today, we’re not Man City, the league table doesn’t lie even this early if I’m being honest, we will not be pushing towards the play offs this season.

Definitely agree that 2nd half Chippenham dictated the tempo of the match by slowing things right down. Buying cheap free kicks all over the pitch.  Yet another cheap penalty against us. We should have had one when you could clearly hear shin pad on shin pad on David , but because he stayed on his feet it wasn't given. 100% missed sundire energy in midfield.

I don't know if this was a "must win", but I'd class it was a "do not lose". And we lost, again because the opposition took 2 of their limited number of chances whereas we didn't take ours. This is becoming a recurring theme, and the excuses are running out.

The 1st half was fairly even. Chippenhams goal came from a run from an unmarked player on our left, leading to a soft penalty. Our equaliser was a little fortunate (albeit excellent work from Bayliss I think, to keep the play alive), and against the run of play (according to the commentators the last touch came off George Alexander, who was offside and so shouldn't have stood, which was why Chippenham were protesting).

The 2nd half however was very poor, and utterly toothless. Plenty of huffing and puffing, but no quality whatsoever. Alexander and Minhas were both isolated and ineffectual, and this lead to precious few chances (I can only recall their keeper having to make one save). Typically, the only quality on show was their second goal (again coming from our left flank) which was well taken. Yes Chippenham defended well, but our pressure was sporadic at best and they were very comfortable for the most part.

We're only 6 games in, but the table is starting to take shape now and we're propping it up, and league tables don't lie.

I’m concerned with us bringing on a 16 year old when we are chasing the game as well and I question who made that decision, whether it was the Management or the Board!

I agree and it’s unfair on the lad. What can he really do in 5 or so minutes? If you’re going to bring him on give him at least 20 minutes!

I've just got back from the game and it's fair to say that results are not going our way. What i will say though is that I know every player in our squad is good enough to turn this around, I for one will be going to every game knowing we are good enough to do this and I will keep cheering the rebels on.

on a footnote to today's game, officials are always going on about respecting officials which I totally agree with but when I hear the assistant referee on the opposite side to the main stand (who was right in front of me) turn around and tell one of our supporters the right honourable Reading Rebel to go forth and multiply ( I will not go down to his level and say what he said ) then any respect goes out of the window. Showing respect goes both ways.

Anyway onto Saturdays game.

We started the game on the front foot with quite a few chances coming our way but it was either their keeper keeping the ball out of the net, a last ditch tackle or a recurring theme throughout the game of a Chippenham player putting their body on the line to prevent a goal.

It was unfortunate that Tyrese Dyce had to come off early due to injury with Gabe George taking his place.

Hopefully Tyrese won't be out for too long with his injury because we certainly need him.

This early substitution was closely followed by us again giving the opposition a step up on the ladder when Gabe George was adjudged to have given away penalty. We then clawed our way back into the game with a goal from Josh Jackman just before the half time whistle.

Again we started the second half reasonably well without either troubling their keeper or with a Chippenham player making a last ditch saving block.

Unfortunately we were again undone when a player down in our left back position was allowed to cross the ball to an unmarked player in the 6 yard box to make it 2-1.

Although we are now sitting at the bottom there are some positives.

It's early days with the positives being that the much needed Matt Lench made a welcome return off the bench and we are only 2 points away from getting out of the relegation zone so it's not all doom and gloom and no need to press the panic button.
