I’d be straight on the phone to Guy Hollis and Lee Togwell this morning, begging them to come back to help us out. Very very concerned!

I’ll be honest about one thing, I do not think Hubert is the answer for the season between the sticks, Billy Terrell is better than him.

" Interesting" comment on the Worthing Fans Forum website made by one of their supporters.

I quote.............

"Slough were a better team than their hoofball tactic allowed.

Their 18 ran rings around us at times and they enjoyed long periods in our half with a number of decent crosses including for their equalising goal for 1-1. "

I'm trying to find some solace after yesterday's result !

I must have seen a different game to most on this forum.

This game was definitely not a 4-1 drubbing.'

It did look as if we lined up with more of a containing formation with one up front with five across the midfield.

No problem with conceding possession in the opponents half and hitting on the break which seemed to be our initial aim.

Unfortunately you can't legislate for the two poor defensive mistakes from Joe Dandy, beaten twice when one on one.

In between we score an excellently worked goal to put us level.

Worthing's third goal coming from a deflection.

I thought we competed well in most areas of the pitch but until we eradicate these defensive errors we'll struggle to win any game let alone against a very good side like Worthing.

For anyone to say we were poor or rubbish must of said it in the the heat of the moment because we were anything but poor.

I think most sensible neutrals will agree.

Take away the defensive errors and it was a closely fought game.

Hollis is hardly playing at two steps lower and Toggs looks to have retired so you can forget about phoning them.

Not sure how you come to the conclusion about Hubert when certain players in front of him are letting him down.

Sorry to have an opinion that differs from yourself RR but I have seen things, like a lot of others, that make me very uncomfortable with our current goalkeeper. Hopefully he proves me, and others, wrong!

As for Hollis and Togs, they’d still improve us, their leadership would immediately elevate those around them amongst other qualities they possess.

I know Worthing were the better team on the night but I thought the scoreline flattered them.

Slough played some good passing football in large parts of that game and I thought quite a few of our players stood out and there was plenty of effort from our team from the very off. To me it wasn't as bad a performance as some fans are saying on this thread. When Slough scored Worthing were rattled but despite a lot of endeavour Slough couldn't keep their attacking threat going and  instead of keeping the pressure on them they were undone when Joe Dandy got caught again with the high ball over the top and we found ourselves behind again.

Going into half-time at 2-1 down I was hopeful Slough could maintain a challenge if we had tweaked the line up a bit. I would have gone 4-4-2 at half time as I was thinking we needed more firepower upfront. I would have put Johnny Goddard upfront alongside George Alexander as Johnny was having a very good game but kept plugging away to shoot but finding it hard to make inroads. I would have swapped Josh Jackman and Joe Dandy around. Josh being a far steelier player centrally and Joe still having a chance to show his quality in a wider role.  I was pleased with our midfielders and thought David,Jeanmal,Munashe and Leon were working their socks off and showed plenty of glimpses of their quality. At this point we were still very much in the game. Yes Slough had given Worthing two soft goals but Slough had not been outclassed in the first half.

What is more concerning to me is our Arsenal loanee goalkeeper. His distribution of the ball is good and his kicking excels but I've not been impressed by his shot stopping yet. What shot stopping?  Worthing's third and fourth goals didn't change my mind on this.

On our substitions I thought Yella had a difficult choice to make at the time, as our midfield was doing well but we weren't creating a lot. David Agbonna was playing very well but Worthing's manager had sussed him and had two Worthing players keeping him under close eye by the time of the substition. As much as it appeared wrong to take David off after having such a fine game our overall play attacking wise needed a lift with substitutions. Jeanmal Prosper leaving the field of play was more of a mystery to me as I thought he among the best players on the night and was getting better as the game went on and along with David he seemed in the thick of the action. When he and David left the pitch our attacking threat seemed to drain away but perhaps that was more to do with how well Worthing marshalled their back line and with their cushion of a two goal lead.

When their fourth goal went in our hearts had gone. That's when Slough looked well beaten but not before.

Don't apologize WR we're all entitled to our opinions.

A few years ago I'd agree but both players have had their day.

Excellent and spot on post 3spirit.

it's all about opinions but anyone who thinks we were poor on the night need to give their head a wobble :laugh(2):

8 game update:

3 games played - 0 points on the board, 15 points still available.

What should be an acceptable number of points after 8 games?

1 point or less is relegation zone, 2 points or more is mid- playoffs.

Should be picking up 1.5 points per game for mid table position, so 12 points is a reasonable expectation.

So 4 wins from 5? 😳

I am very surprised that some people are spinning a game in which the opposition scored 4, we did little to threaten their keeper throughout (particularly in the 2nd half when we were supposed to be chasing the game) and when the going got tough, discipline went out the window, as anything other than a very poor display.

As for some "good passing football", this means little if you don't threaten as the end of it. And surely you weren't referring to our defence were you 🤣

It looks like a thumping but if you analyse the goals we gave them the first 2 and 1 was a deflection.

There's no doubt Worthing defended very well, which at times they had to, and deserved their win but for any one to say we were poor is imo deluding themselves.

That’s a very rose tinted glasses view…… so if we hadn’t given away a penalty, had two red cards, made four very poor defensive errors & been unlucky with a deflection we would be mid table with 5 points.

I’m all for a bit of optimism, but the reality is that Scott has significant issues that he needs to resolve before there will be an improvement in the results.
