Predictions for 2023/4 season

The bookies have posted their opening predictions for the new season with:-

Yeovil & Torquay as the top two followed by the other play-off places for Maidstone, Dartford, Farnborough, Hampton & Havant.

In the relegation zone they have:-

Chippenham, Taunton, Aveley & Dover with Hemel, Weymouth & us marginally surviving.

What are your thoughts? Are they clueless or are we in for a potentially nerve jangling season?

With all the trialists/mixed squads we've seen so far in pre season I think it's far too early to say if it's going to be a struggle or not.

Come the Uxbridge and Banbury games when we should see somewhere near our best side in action should give us a better indication.

I think the bookies have definitely got it wrong with Chippenham, Taunton and Hemel who will imo be somewhere around mid table.

At this stage I think you've got to say Aveley, Dover, Truro, Tonbridge and possibly Weston will be scrapping it out at the foot of the table.

I've deliberately left us out of any prediction until I see how we perform with somewhere near our 1st 11.

I think this seasons league is without doubt a lot stronger. Had we made no changes then I think we’d have struggled to better last seasons position. But we’ve made some positive and exciting signings but the ‘proof will be in the pudding’ and I think we can judge a little better maybe after 10 games. I personally would be delighted with 10th place. Any talk at the moment about play offs is a little optimistic but let’s reassess after 10 games…

I think you and a few others will be surprised regarding WSM. They have a bit of money behind them and the majority of their squad are/were on 2 year contracts. Not saying they’ll be too 5 but I think they’ll certainly be safe and mid table but I also wouldn’t be surprised if they make the play offs.

I'd be delighted with 15th place in this division of 24 come the end of the season.

I think we will have an uphill battle to get much better. What we have to remember is that the squad that starts the season is not likely to be the squad that finishes the season.

I like to bear in mind Donald Rumsfeld, United States Defense Secretary when briefing the United States Department Of Defense in 2002 as to why USA invaded Iraq he said ' As we know, there are known knowns. There are things we know we know.We also know there are known unknowns. That is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don't know we don't know. '

I think that statement sums up the pointlessness of predicting how Slough will do in the National League South at this current time ! ha ha !

No offence,Curtis, but we need to see what the Slough first eleven [and 5 substitutes] are on a regular basis before making such a prediction.
