After the previous evening's washout, I completed some family stuff in MK and drove down to Hemel for this 1400hrs KO. I parked up early on a side road opposite the entrance (as advised by Cleeve of these parts) in this leafy suburb of Hemel. After some fodder, just as I got out the car, there was a massive clap of thunder and then torrential rain for 15 minutes. Using a tree outside the ground to shelter out of the worst, I met another hopper (a lurker on here) from Meopham in Kent, who follows Ebbsfleet and Bolton(!). Nice to meet him (Patrick?) and we had a good chat throughout the game.
A smart set up here, basic but quite attractive. Clubhouse and overhanging shelter in front for those who stand and a small seated stand opposite. Otherwise all greenery on 3 sides and housing behind the clubhouse. You can park inside the ground, but I think this was limited to one end today.
The result was never really in doubt with this being Spartan Premier versus Spartan D2. Some good, well taken goals and P&I gave a good account of themselves in the 2nd half in particular. No more rain (in fact it got quite warm) and the pitch was immaculate.
Home via Kings Langley/M25/M4/Newbury in 135.

Attendance: rough head count of around 70-75
Afternoon out with my daughter for the 70 mile drive south. Thankfully the M1 behaved both ways and it took around 1hr 20 minutes each way.
The ground is functional and tidy with an impressive new Clubhouse serving snacks and drinks, though no food on unfortunately. The game saw the hosts take the lead on 9 minutes from the penalty spot but just 9 minutes later and it was 1-1 via another penalty. Ampthill took the lead around the half hour mark and added a third in the second half. Late on in the game and a home player was sent off for I believe striking an Ampthill player, though will happily be corrected if wrong.
My daughter kept herself occupied for the most part and found another young girl to play with, whose parents I stood with in the second half chewing the cud while watching the football.
One final bonus was that the rain held off apart from a few spots. A good choice to head to Bedfordshire.

My first game of the season, and a decent game. Whilst no programme or team sheets were published, the tannoy man read out both XI's and subs which was very helpful. By half time I had worked out who the mystery 'A.N.Other' was at number 6 for City.
City took the lead in under two minutes, a very neat volleyed finish by Tom Waumsley. I spent most of the first half chatting with a former neighbour who has moved out to the Huntingdon area, and as such didn't really get a great view as City seemed to switch off towards the end of the half and conceded three quick goals to trail 3-1 at half time.
Within 10 minutes of the re-start it was all level - Cotton and sub Leech scoring for City. After that a pretty even affair. Town thought they had snatched a win as we moved into the 91st minute but the goal was ruled out for a foul. City went immediately to the other end and they scored - this one ruled out as well for a clear foul on the keeper.
Just shy of 100 watching.
