Surely the question that needs asking is Why shouldnt he be first choice?

I think 'that boat has sailed' meaning that Scott must have doubts about Rhys, and from Rhys's point of view he must feel unfairly treated/demoted. If I was Rhys I wouldn't come back to Slough, and if I was Scott I would be looking for a new goalkeeper to serve him for the long haul [more than just this season], as long as Scott isn't shown the door because of bad performances from his team !

That's how I see it anyway.

Don't think you can plan that far ahead Lots of coming and goings in a short time at Slough

Why?

To me the goalkeeper is the most important signing. If you get a duff one,the manager loses his job. Also some goalkeepers are erratic and barmy,so not what you need. A manager and his players need to have faith in their goalkeeper, especially for a newly put together team to develop. If I was Scott, this is a position I would 'push the boat out' for to make sure I get it right in the first place. Forget the loan system. Get a proper top non-league keeper in. It will pay in the long run.

I certainly don't think that boat has sailed.

You've got to remember Rhys is relatively new to being between the sticks and still learning and if he continues to improve he has a very bright future in front of him.

We were in the proverbial last season and Scott had to make the call to continue with a relatively inexperienced keeper or bring in a keeper from a premiership club to hopefully save our season.

We have no idea whats going on behind the scenes as far as who will be our keeper for next season.

Rhys could be our number one or continue on a dual reg or he could sign somewhere else on a permanent basis.

Hopefully we'll find out very soon.

I know we've got new owners but to get a 'top non league keeper' would more than likely be way beyond what we could afford.

A good capable keeper for the NLS is more likely to be within our budget and what we'll get.

You've also got to remember we still need to fork out on a decent striker or two which won't come cheap.

When I say a top non-league keeper, I should have said a proven keeper [not a player from the league above]. Sorry phrased it wrong. Also he could come from one league below.

Unlike SloughFlyer I thought Jonathan North was a good signing. The right amount of experience and established at our level.

Jack Turner before him was also a brilliant signing. On the goalkeeper front Bakes and Unders come up trumps with their acquisitions between the posts, from Jake Somerville onwards.

Ah that's good so we agree on the keeper front 😂

I also agree on Jon North.

Yes he made mistakes but so does every other keeper.

Ok it's a level lower but he's proved it at Aveley and at every club he's been to and will probably prove it when we play them.

Didn't prove it at Slough (don't get me started on North again you lot, he was rubbish and thank godness before Neil and Jon left they got rid of him or we would be looking, to bring it back to the topic, 1 step closer to playing in the FA Vase)

I do agree on the keeper front, but was surprised in the first place that we made the change with Rhys and Will. I thought in the long run Will was the better keeper, but I don't think there was a world of difference between the 2 (apart from the management of the box which Will was much better at, although to be expected given the 2 different levels of coaching the pair have had).

I would be more than happy if Rhys is our #1 again next year and if not, I'm sure whomever Scott gets will be a good replacement as I know he was offered loads of keepers throughout the first months of his time in charge so it'll be about choosing the right one.

I also don't think we can be looking at "sharing" 2 keepers playing times, as we will not have the budget to be able to do this surely. If that is the case, between say Rhys and someone else, then both being dual reg'd and swapping in and out as the same club has to be the way to go, but this would mean IMO we have 2 weaker goal keepers rather than a solid #1 and perhaps an A23 lad to learn from that #1 and play in the BB Cup etc.

Rhys had a great game, also, a clean sheet at a Wembley final can only increase his confidence, and determination to grow as a keeper.

Here's one of him, I captured

Great photo that Gary, I'm sure Rhys will catch up with you about getting a few, he's currently sunning himself on a beach on one of the Greek Islands.

Yes excellent performance reported on all over social media  Its strange how his alleged weaknesses dissapated as soon as joined Ascot !

Dropping down three levels probably helped. Put the strongest NLS players in League One and they'll look weak as well.

Hopefully Rhys has developed with this experience, as I felt he was unlucky to be shafted when Will Dennis came along. I would definitely give him another go.

He might have been a tad unlucky but when a keeper of the quality of Will Dennis becomes available and you are in big trouble at the wrong end of he table you don't say no.

Big call by Scott and proven to be the right one.
